so far i've only had the chance to put sixty rounds through the rifle and i am extremely disappointed. the first forty rounds were a dream the gun operated flawlessly and without fail but now i am having failures to feed extract and fire. every 2-3 rounds the magazine fails to feed. every 5-6 the firing pin fails to strike a round and at the same frequency the brass fails to extract. has anyone else who owns a 542 had these issues? i bought this rifle from tactical imports but i have no clue what the problem is honestly

sometimes primers are seated too deep.
Is there any chance of that?

You could try a different brand of ammo.

Did you buy it from CSC? They warranty their rifles and have all the parts in stock.
If you are in or near Calgary, PM me.

sorry for the late reply, i got the rifle from tactical imports and i went out and shot some remington 308 and some norc surplus 762x51 and had the same issues and it is on the standard gas setting 1

Well they are definitely not Swiss Arms quality which means they definitely aren't worth the asking price. Interested to see what the issues are.

One way or the other you're getting light primer strikes.

a) firing pin too short.
b) hammer spring too weak.
c) Too much headspace.
d) bolt not fully closed. Are you letting it slam closed or closing the bolt gently?

My magazines came a little sticky but nothing some dissasemby and cleaning don't take care off. You can't be gentle with the rifle itself. Let the bolt slam shut and let er rip.

I've had my 542 for about 1 year plus it was from the first lot that entered the country .
a few things I have found . Mine has had close to 700-800 rounds through it and not a single falure to feed. .
Its a tank if it's handeled like one . You said you cleaned it the bolts a little tricky sometimes to reassemble .
You do have to let that bolt slam down . Did you check to see in there is anything hung up in the extractor .
I should mention that I run norinco 7.62 x51 for target and hand load for hunting and to reduce case damage .
I would be looking at the bolt face .

i couldn't get mine to MIS fire if I tried

This has to be a warranty issue. The gun should run flawlessly. These rifles would be really interesting if magazines weren't a fortune.

Agree about the warranty!

For $168 and tax and Shipping, ERE systems has an adaptor to take AR magazines. So for a little bit more than the cost of one mag, you can use P-mags.

I've been waiting for a reasonably priced used one to come up in the EE, I would like to give one of these a try with out the depreciation of buying new.

Sounds like my buddy is trying to sort out the warranty issue right now. But apparently CSC who is responsible for the warranty of these rifles is denying any assistance cuz he didn't purchase it from them? I would have thought it still had a manufacturer warranty but I guess I could be wrong. I'm waiting on a update from my buddy
