With all the new SAF's out there, I hope CGN'rs are running them hard and fast. I'm currently using a 10.5" RRA upper in .223 for tac rifle matches and courses. I'm considering picking up a pistol caliber carbine or a 9mm upper and mag block for the AR.

I'm leaning towards the SAF and looking for comments about the ease of doing a speed reload/stopage drills and the durability of the new batch of mags. Is your speed reload/stoppage clearance with the SAF faster/slower/same vs. your AR times? Can the SAF mags survive being dropped and stepped on as well as the PMAGs?

I'm not too concerned about the 5 round mag limit. It just provides more opportunities to practice mag changes. :)

Any other positive or negative features of the SAF that you've discovered?

The mags are extremely tight in the mag well. Speed reloads can be fairly difficult. The mags are also pretty fragile. I have one with cracked feed lips and with the price of the mags I wouldn't want to be dropping them. Granted those are mags from the old batch. I can't say how the new ones are improved, if at all.

As for speed I'm much faster with an AR. Stoppage drills and reloads could be done at the same speed if it weren't for the tight mags. You really have to rip them out.

Otherwise I think it would make for a good CQB match gun. It's small enough and is easy to control and points quickly.
