I have been told that you can modify Uzi mags quite easily.....

You've been lied to or BS'ed by someone who really does not have a clue. I have Uzi mags and I have a 9mm SAF.

I do not mean to discourage anyone... I have modded lots of stuff over the years for various reasons and with patience it is all do-able. I just wish people were more honest about what is required to mod something to have it work *reliably*.

With the SAF...major modifications are required to the mag to get it to work right and then you will need to modify the follower if you want it to hold open. It is not impossible to do but be prepared to spend *several* hours PER MAG in the shop to get them to work: welding, fitting, grinding, polishing etc etc etc

You could try to find a common type of mag (AR, Uzi, etc), and find a way to adapt it to your carbine. Things that you will have to modify are the mag hooks, latches, and shape of where it goes into the mag well.

I've read of AK mags being adapted to fit VZ 58 magwells, and I was also considering trying to adapt m16 mags to fit my Mini 14.

Sorry for the hijack, but my point is to show that it can be done, and modifications that you may have to do to make it work.
