I recently picked up a Famae SG 540-1 and have a pretty constant failure to eject issue. Extracts just fine but fails to eject once out of every five or so, then it will run fine for a while and then turn into a jam-o-matic. Every once in a while when it does eject the brass just kind of falls out instead of being thrown.
Tried a couple different ammos and none seem any better or worst then the others.
Any recommendations to fix this issue/ is this a common problem.
Is the spring to stiff?
Do I just need to find ammo that it likes?

Yes, setting 1 and 2 on the gas block.
Took it apart and cleaned it a few times also.

I Have a 542 that has ran extremely well for a while aside from magazines being unoptanium.

I would double check this as blocked gas is the most likely culprit. The gas block and regulator need a thorough cleaning with a carbon scraper. I find old Allen keys work great, and a good soaking in a good carbon cutter or Varsol.

My 540 was a jammer then i read some where that the bolt hold open on last shot was never designed into this rifle added after.
I removed the feature and it runs 100 percent.
I trimmed the tab off the bolt hold open where it is in contact with magazine last shot.
The bolt closes after last shot you still have manual bolt hold open if you want.
Runs like an top only no open bolt when empty i would rather it run than not and the closed bolt does not bother me.

The other problem i had with the jamming was the last round would eject.
Load five fire four where is the 5th round never did find them i think it just popped out and ejected somewhere.
It was a bit of a mystery in an otherwise sound rifle.
It looked like the bolt hold open tab was dragging on the rounds slowing the whole bolt down.
Trimmed it off never looked back shoots all five no jamming.

good luck happy shooting
