I am looking to get in to the black rifle game again. Have had couple AR's but not in 2 years. I am looking at the FAMAE SG-540, BUSHMASTER ACR and the ROBINSON ARMAMENT XCR-L KEYMOD 18.5" HEAVY. They are all in 223 / 5.56. Wanted to know the reliability, durability, and accuracy people are getting with them. thanks

I actually prefer the ergos on the XCR due to the left hand cocking handle.
The XCR can be tuned down with proper load to get a 1.5 moa rifle, some claim even better.
The 540 as is is a ultra reliable battle rifle with around a 2 moa consistency, and not too picky of what ammo it is fed.

I like both but I prefer the 540.
 
I've owned a lot of different black rifles, however I haven't owned an ACR, so it is hard to comment on that one.
I voted XCR, simply because I have had good luck with them. They are a reliable, non restricted rifle that offers reasonable accuracy, rails, and use AR mags, for a pretty good price.
If you had the Swiss Arms option available, I would have voted that. I LOVE mine. I realize that the SG540 is very much the same, but for the functionality you lose with the lack of a full top rail, proprietary mags, etc., you might as well get the more well constructed Swiss, or a gun that is less money but offers all of the options.

Just my $0.05.
 
I can't vote because I've never laid hands on an ACR. I would love to play with one though...but now that I have the XCR I dunno if I really have a need for the ACR.

Preliminary load development tells me mine is going to come in around 1.2~1.5. I am having some teething problems with this gun though that could involve the adjustable gas setting. Initially I wasn't impressed with it but now that I've sat down with it...for me it is the best NR alternative to the AR.
 
ACR would be my choice out of those on your list.

I have owned/spent time with all you are considering. XCR was plagued with problems that went unresolved and led to it's sale. SG540 has very poor fit and finish for the price, might want to consider a swiss arms instead if going that route.

I have owned an xcr and a SG540. Both are cool. The xcr was pretty damn reliable, which sort of surprised me. Just keep an eye on the threaded components. I had to tighten the gas block after 100 rounds or so. After that I didn't break anything on it for the 1800 rounds I had it for. I'm not sure it is as reliable as a good AR15, but it was pretty good. It has an adjustable gas block which I liked at first. Then I shot my buddy's tavor that just worked whatever ammo you put through it, with no adjustments.

So I sold it. I only had the 540 for a short time, but I didn't like it as much as my tavor so I moved it on to a new owner. It's sweet though. Light recoil impulse. Fun to shoot. It is a bit old school with the handguards and such, so it is harder to mount accessories on, and the accessories that are available are very pricey. XCR beats it in terms of modularity. I suspect the 540 would be more reliable given its heritage, but I didn't own it long enough to really know.

I haven't owned an ACR yet though, so that is the one I voted for. I've handled them and I like the feel. I just don't feel the need to own one right now given how much I love my tavor.

*I don't really shoot these rifles for accuracy though, so I won't comment on that.

I had a 542 but because I needed extra funds, the gun had to go. Nice unit though. Never got to compare it to a Swiss but honestly I couldn't care. The rifle is well balanced while the oddly long barrel on the XCR feels very front heavy especially if it's the heavy barrel version. Both are cool rifles though. A hard decision to make.
 
The XCR's have a reputation for reliability issues. Like a really widely believed reputation for issues and being temperamental for break-in.

I'm shocked the XCR is in first place in the polls!

It also looks like the most expensive according to wolverines current retail

It's too bad that there's such a big price gap between the low end non-restricted (like the 858s and the Mini-14) at around $1000ish and the higher end ones that start around $2500. The only one I can think of in the $1500-$2000 range is the MR-1, which to me is more like a hunting rifle in spirit than a black rifle.

Yes, and yes.

Also super heavy, poorly balanced and mediocre in the accuracy department for a rifle with a heavy barrel. Then again is got its barrel held to the receiver with a .25 inch screw.

Do not miss mine at all.

ACR was $2175 on sale not long ago, I bought HK SL8 for around $1800 new.

Current pricing on the XCR $3200-$3300 is outrageous for what you get IMO.

Oh my goodness, I didn't think the XCR was that much. I still had it in my mind that it was 2200-2400, then I checked Wolverine. I'm guessing the dollar has jacked the price up a fair bit. $2900? I think I would like to change my vote.
