Famae sg 542 ??? Got question for you folks

My 540 was rough at first, but gets smoother every time out, easy and fun to shoot. A bit pricey, but I've never had a problem, and it's non-restricted.
When they have them in stock, Canada Ammo has mags for a reasonable price.
My buddy has the 542 with the factory bipod, I wasn't impressed with the bipod ($150) so I modified one that I had.
I really like the folding stock, super comfortable ( if you don't get a shorter bolt with the folding stock, you need to trim the factory one)
The gun isn't as beautiful or refined as some out there, but I like it more and more every time I shoot it and consider it money well spent.

But I think I will join the groupe lof those who will buy at 1500$ or a second hand rifle.
 
Recent owner of the SG 542. Have shot it a fair bit (~ 900 rounds) over the past few weeks in my excitement. A few considerations,

+ Handsome - has the rugged battle rifle look
+ Battle rifle feel - looks like it can take a beating
+ Reliable with all types of ammo I tried (commercial and Milsurp)

- Loose tolerances
- Poor fit and finish - most parts feel "cheap"
- Soggy trigger
- Battle Rifle accuracy: 2-3 MOA

Conclusion: A no nonsense and honest battle rifle that doesn't pretend to be anything but. Definitely not worth ~$3k when compared against other offerings at the same price point but the fact that it is a NR makes it a strong contender in this price bracket.
 
If your looking for the same quality as the the Swiss Arms you will be really disappointed.
For me it's the "Norinco" version of the SAN. Priced to high for the quality. I passed on it.
That being said what's the comparable price to a SAN in 308..... It's much more and like another poster said hard to find.
