Famae SG540/543... owners like them? Hate them?

Function the same as SA, as accurate, components - although not the same fit and finish as the SA - are made of high quality materials, just not finished as smoothly. for 65% of the price you get 95% of the quality and 100% of the accuracy as the SA. Not a bad buy in my books. To have them side by side on a table with a good light source, of course there are noticeable differences, to be in a cold wet dark firefight those differences disappear altogether.

Forgot to ad, I like them a lot. Every gun is a compromise, as you can't have it all in one platform. These do what they were intended to and do it extremely well.

I had a 5.56mm model and it was great. Recoil was mild. Robust. I wouldn't hesitate to get another again one some day.

Be sure to try it irons only for a bit too.
The weight is lighter than a Swiss Arms, once the optics go on it adds up fast.

I could never bring myseld to drill holes in the butt stock for that kind of cheek weld.
I just got the soft fabric style like an AR that velsros around the stock.

Sorry, but that cobbled together butt stock and cheek riser combination looks like as$.

Guys say these hang with the SA in the accuracy department? I'd like to see that first hand.

yeah, I'm not actually that crazy about the looks of it myself. Might take it off and just go for the chinweld. Thinking about getting one of the Galil-style folders from ERE as another option...

Another option is an AR stock adapter, and use a magpul CTR with a cheek riser(or other AR stock with adjustable cheek piece). Also, if you take the rear sight off you can mount the scope lower.

Too bad it takes proprietary mags. Would be nice to see it at TAC rifle. We had a SA once but not seen a Famae yet.

You can get a mag block for them that allows them to use AR mags. I figured for the same price, though, I could buy 10 of the proprietary mags, so I went that route, as having 10 round mags isn't really that important to me unless I'm competing with a gun. I'm actually tempted to bring it out for the shoot at the end of the month in Chilliwack, as it's not actually a competition anyway. If there was anything at stake, I'd bring an AR for sure, but it might be fun to use for CASE

Hope we have a range we can see by then! We have 2 feet of snow here now!
The final stage of CASE is a course of fire which consists of around 35 rounds fired IIRC. Will definitely test your reloading skills!

Not impossible though. We had a 70 yr old guy run it with a genuine 30-06 Garand!

Looks good, where did you get it from??

I'm having a hard time finding one with green furniture and the EE WTB section is no more!?+??!

My WTB ad paid off - I got it here on the EE. A bit more than I wanted to spend, but not a bad deal with the black and green furniture and a few mags.

What do you think of it?
Did the explanations we gave make sense?

Yeah, thanks. All of the feedback everyone provided in the thread put me over the edge to actually try one. So far it appears to be well-built and intelligently designed. Stripping it down for cleaning is easy. Looking forward to shooting it sometime soon!
