Famae SG542 Classic Scope choices

Hi everyone,

What sights and scopes have you mounted to your SG542 that works really good. I'm at a bit of a crossroads and I am unsure what glass to use. What has been working best for you?

I would honestly stick with an inexpensive LVPO - something like a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8X Second Focal Plane in the ~$800 price range. Anything more such as the Trijicon 1-8 pictured below, is honestly wasted on a 542 given the relatively poor accuracy of the system and the 1000m range of the .308 round. I have owned 2 different 542s, not trusting my poor accuracy findings with the first enough not to buy a second (hoping for better) - that was a mistake. Both rifles were 4 MOA with bulk M80 Ball ammo and MAYBE 3 MOA with Federal 168gr .308 Gold Medal Match ammo. YMMV, but probably not by much...

I'm running a surplus Elcan C79 on mine.

I had to remove the rear sight "drum" in order to be able to mount it back far enough on the rail to get a good full sight picture.

LPVO with a UTG mount that is hollowed out so you can still use the iron sights.

I've been wondering the same thing, planning on doing a LPVO like mentioned above although I'm considering a Primary arms SLx 1-10x

I used AR15 type scopes and Bauer AR15 scope rings
should not be much different on 308
