I'm thinking of getting a Famae 542 and putting an Aimpoint micro on it as a hunting/plinking set up. Does anyone have experience with running a micro on the Famae? How is the cheek weld etc.
I tried a Holosun for fit just to see how it'd work—I think it's pretty close to the Aimpoint for mounting height. Even with the low factory mount (this one herenow on my FS2000) for my taste it was still too high, although I didn't shoot with it mounted. I prefer a snug cheekweld, though, so others may be OK with it. I prefer the irons.
I had a hensoldt RSA on my 540 with the AR stock adapter and I thought it was not bad. I put a magpul ctr on it to have the option of a cheek riser but I didn't end up needing it.
That would depend on what stock you put on it. At CTR with riser would do the job the most affordably, where as a PRS would be the higher end on price but a very solid (and adjustable) stock.
I believe it is a bit higher than the standard fixed stock, but I don't have it anymore so I can't compare.
Also, re the ctr and PRS - two very different applications in my opinion. The ctr is a nice adjustable length m4 stock I would use on a rifle I planned on carrying and shooting off hand etc (and can adjust length of pull between winter and summer clothing etc). I would use the PRS for a precision rifle primarily shot from prone. Just my opinion though. I don't have the weights in front of me.
I have a aimpoint patrol on mine an carved some dense foam and taped it on with cloth camo tape , works great ,micro is lower you should be fine but easy fix if not
