FAMAS 5.56mm

I think they're ugly as hell.

I had one for 8 years, no complain.
I like the idea of lefty/righty in seconds; the use of grenades (AC/AP +200m) for every users etc...
Just missing a good base for optics IMO

Does anybody if there's a future replacement for the FAMAS?

Perhaps the French Army will simply skip the preliminaries and issue white flags? It is somewhat more dignified to do this than to see French Generals waving their underpants around at the end of broomsticks.

Sorry guy. I could not resist making a crack.

yep, and you are just hilarious...

Actually the Famas was probably the best designed bull pup rifle on the market it shoulders well,The stock design which lowers the barrel reduces muzzle climb and is a very reliable platform the down side is that it used 25rnd mags

^I'd say another drawback is that it's not gas operated, but blowback...

Wouldn't it get dirty as hell after a few hundred rounds?

...A bullpup is a bullpup - you either like it or hate it...
I respectfully disagree, although I used to think so too. I find the AUG to be a graceful, clean design whereas oh, the Tavor for instance, is grotesque in all respects. Another example of a well designed bullpup would be the FN P90, contrasted against the ghastly ChiCom QBZ95. Granted, functionality reigns supreme over aesthetics. These are only my opinions, I'm not trying to start @#$% ;) Cheers

...And since they're french that makes them a steaming POS
Ya, the French sure make lousy firearms, eh? *cough*Manhurin*cough*

Early criticism I heard of the FAMAS, as well as the AUG is that if there is a catastrophic case failure, or pierced primer, then there is nothing to protect the shooter’s face from escaping gases. I also read that the L85 design did have features that protected the shooter from escaping gas. However, these features in the L85 made it impossible to easily switch the gun from right-handed ejection to left-handed ejection. The Brits therefore issued all L85 rifles right-handed only.

I do not know enough about the mechanics of these rifles to say weather these comments are accurate. But years ago, Jane’s Infantry Weapons use to laud the L85 as superior to the AUG and FAMAS because the L85 was allegedly safer. Jane’s and other British sources often praised their own country’s products and panned those of others. But I think the limies would not make up lies out of whole cloth on this issue. I think there was something to it.

"and an Edmonton collector kept his until after the hand-in date, then took it to display at a gun show. He called the cops and said come and seize it... they did and the court case was launched."

Yup, and he wore prison striped coveralls on that dismal day. When the Nazis came in and seized it, most of the people in the gun show started giving the nazi salute and shouting sieg heil!. Quite entertaining, really. The officers doing the grabbing looked pretty embarrassed though. - dan

Ted Zimmerman was his names. I was happy to know him at the time he stood up to all the bulls**t of our “kinder, gentler” Canada. He had balls, and said "F you all" to the establishment.

Funny how a spineless jellyfish like David Suzuki is hailed as the bold radical standing for “what is right” in Canadian society. Now I hear Suzuki works for Wal-Mart, doing whatever the Yankees tell him. He is about as radical as the Imperial Bank of Commerce and about as heroic as an insurance appraiser. There is something seriously wrong with a society that recognizes a “man” of this caliber as anything other than the most cynical of opportunists. Nobody knows Ted, but he was the real deal.

What the hell ever happened to Ted Zimmerman? I have not seen him in years. I hope he is still sticking it to the man.
