We have been bow hunting all weekend and last night it was a family affair. My partner big Tony, his Wife and 15 year old son were all hunting the front bush. Toomer was sitting over the food plot with his three year old son Liam.
Tonys son Luc is 15 and he arrowed a nice 6 point for his first bow kill... it was very gratifying to watch him being congratulated by his parents at the kill site. 8)
The three year old held the flashlight as Luc field dressed the buck while the adults gave advice and guided him throught the process. :D
Lucs brother Dan is 13 and we hope to get him onto a deer in the upcoming weeks as well.
I think that getting the kids out hunting should be our number one priority... don't you

NO...getting them through school healthy , happy and well adjusted and on a path to a career or trade is the priority,

If hunting fits in then fine , if not..thats fine also....

I told my son to quit school and become a hunting bum... he chose to go to university and get his Masters Degree... I am very dissapointed.... :?

Seriously.... you are right coltfan... but the context of my point was that as Hunters our priority should be to include Women and Children in our Sport.

Hmmm...you took it awful easy on me .... you feeling OK ? :D , but I kinda figured you meant that........

I extend invites to the range to most of my daughters friends.....both male and female....

I have been waiting 11 years for this season. This is the year that my 12 year old daughter is coming hunting with me. My 7 year old son can't wait to turn 12 so that he can join us.

My vote is yes. We need to make every effort possible to teach and introduce hunting to our children.

I'd argue they're pretty close to the same thing.

Kids learn a lot in school, but they don't learn everything they need to be good citizens, good people and happy healthy members of society.

That kind of stuff they learn outside of the classroom - and it's every bit important to learn to be responsible and to trust yourself as it is to learn quadratic equasions.

Hunting for a young lad can play a major role in teaching those necessary and critical life lessons that your average schoolteacher just can't. If you doubt me, look at todays kids - raised in the cities by the television and the internet, they're jaded, confused, disrespectful of others AND themselves, and they won't take a risk to save their lives, they want an easy path with everything handed to them.

no - i think hunting is at least as important.

this year the brother-in-law has joined our hunting party so that makes 4 now my dad, brother, and myself. The brother-in-law's son (10 or 11) was out with us on our first one day trip and got to watch as I shot a deer and helped gut it.

He's still basking in the glow of being called "classy" in another thread!

There's no way I can get my wife or daughter out, but my son is interested in beating the thickets for birds. Got to get him to take the core course first.

I would be happy to take my kids hunting...but first I need to find a female in heat that would be willing to procreate with this Ol'Buck :D

My wife plays a major role in my hunting......she stands in the window and waves goodbye as I back out of the driveway.......it's her way of contributing.

The closest she gets to being in the bush is when we look for a Christmas tree at IKEA

Sorry got to agree with BIGREDD here. My kids have learned more with me in the field, then they have in school.
True north, Magnetic north and Mean dec. there is a formula to calculate this hense they learn math from me. How to shoot a bearing and orientate a map.Read the star's. Plot route's. So if were talking career or trade, Topigraphical Survyor and Map Reproduction, both 70K plus a year jobs.
The anatomy of an animal when were field dressing it. Now we talk Biology.
It's more important to spend as much time with your kids as you can. They can only figure out what they want to do career wise if as a parent you expose them to a wide variety of experience's
That's my Priority

I agree it should be one of our top priorities. It;s good for the kids to spend time outside and learn valuable survival skills. My 14 yo daughter is starting this year and her 11 yo sister is jealous as can be... I figure if I can get the girls hunting like I did get them fishing, I'll keep them away from trouble a little while longer...
