Now that the wife has her new laundry room its my turn. I've even found extra space that I didn't think would get the wife's ok. So.... I'm trying to think of all the things I'd like/need in a loading room that has everything.

What do you find to be a must have,, or a item/ ability, that you'd really love or couldn't do with out. Now keep in mind the wife has to be agreeable to this,, no bikini girls handing me my bullets as I seat them down.!

I load for Rifle/ shotgun and pistol. Current presses are Lee progressive (used to be progressive) and RCBS Rock chucker (hardly used) a MEC sizemaster for 12 ga and an RCBS Ammo pack set up for .50BMG.
Looking for suggestions regarding ideas for loading/ storing/cleaning /fixing etc.

Thanks.

Reloading Room:
Benchtop with a power source for the tumbler, TV, DVD player. Something with some good shelving for all the powder and components. And of course some space for the press and ancillary tools.

It wouldn't hurt to have the ability to shoot the ammunition on the spot for testing purposes, but I don't think your wife would allow that.

1. Adjustable lighting.
2. Good ventilation with minimal draft.
3. Outlets everywhere.
4. Sweepable floor. No carpet.
5. No open floor drains.
6. Three times the shelving & cabinets you currently think you will need.
7. Metal door with big lock to keep wife out, and happiness in.
8. First aid kit.

fantasy room

Hydro won't be an issue, I'm an electrician, i've got the lots of hydro part already planned.
Twin tumblers under the bench, behind hinged insulated doors , so I don't have to listen to them too loudly. Tumbler recepticles switched AND the switches controlled from the lighting circuit. When I turn off the lights the tumblers stop for the night.
Laminate flooring for easy clean up of primers.
Heavy steel fire door already priced and planned.
Room is going to be two adjoining rooms, the room I have been using 10x10 and i've cut a doorway through a wall to the other side of basement for additional room where I'll also have a desk/computer/internet and station for laptop that has my range info.

Sounds good.
I will be working on my Man room soon once we get settled in our new place :D

Im thinking place for Laptop, fridge, flat screen tv mounted on wall.

I am not convinced the heavy fire door is a good idea, at first glance it does seemlike the right thin to do, but if the fire started inside of the door depending on how much powder vs space you have that could get more dangerous than open air.

Yeah, brag it up Gatehouse, some of us actually have to load up our trucks with piles of range stuff, firearms of assorted disciplines, ammo, cleaning gear, spotting optics, staple gun and targets, oops forgot the extra staples, I guess I will hammer .22 brass into the board with a rock to hold the target up...... what else? :)

I have to do that too....My personal range is only 100 yards, so if I want to shoot further, I have to go tot he club:)

No fire probs.

explosions won't be a problem as where the wall reaches the top there are the floor joints from the floor about with 14.5" of space between em running the other direction (think about how your house is built). There's enough room for circulation but not enough to squeeze someone over the wall.
Not sure the powder will be stored in the same room anyways. The heavy door is to protect my loaded ammo and my firearms investment from growing legs.

Adjustable lighting was already mentioned, but I'd put about two of the lamps with movable arms beside each loading press. I'd also put in some shelves for dies that are two short to stack more then maybe two die boxes on. Prevents them from being stacked up 8 deep when you want the bottom box.

Is this room for more then just reloading, as in cleaning guns, repairs, refinishing etc? If this was the case I have a lot more things I intend to put into mine.

Ya, and have the safe, cleaning table and stuff on the other side.

I would like lots of shelves, and a higher bench.

Slowly drawing plans for it....should start work on it next year :D

All gun related activities going on down there. Gonna have to clean the big one in the other side of the room, too long to do in the smaller loading area.
Barrell way too long.

For cleaning the best system I've seen is a friend of mine mounted some sort of a gun vice onto a stand that swivels. It sits in the middle of the room at a good working height, you can walk all the way around the gun or spin it as needed, seems like a great way to clean guns, mount scopes etc.

I'd also add a seperate bench from the loading equipment with a padded vice, maybe one with brass jaws etc for doing repair work on. Things like drill presses, belt sanders, bench grinders etc all are great things to have too.

I agree, the swivel vise is a great idea.
I'm currently moving to bigger room myself - if you saw the pics in the other reloading room thread, you'll know why.
Plan on doing couple walls in pegboard down to about 3ft from the floor. I find its so handy to be able to hang stuff up...everything from knives to packages of cleaning patches.

Anyway....thats my great idea....and I promise to keep it neat Mom.....
