We've lost our youngest member of the Big Buck Island Hunt Club this past weekend. Kurt was only 17 years old. I sat up with him almost every night last fall listening to stories and telling a few of my own. He was out last weekend on Lake Penage where his family's camp is. He had been visiting a friend on the lake and was coming back to his camp Saturday night by snowmobile when I guess he became disoriented and crashed into a rock cliff at high speed. His father went looking for him at first light, from what I understand. He found him but it was too late. I will be travelling to Sudbury tomorrow to pay my respects to his family.

Last fall was special because we had three generations in the camp. His Grandfather Keijo accounted for quite a bit of meat on the pole last year and Kurt's father Keven was there as well. I've been hunting with these guys for 25 years and they are the best.

I think Kurt dogged every run last year (as the young guys should). He was no stranger to hard work.

A couple of weeks ago, I gave Keijo a framed 8 x 10 of him and his grandson with the buck that he (Keijo) had taken with a single shot from his .300 Savage last Fall.

I had no idea what tragedy lay ahead. He was the only son in the family. He leaves behind a pile of people who will really, really miss him, including me.

My respects to you, and his family. He will not be forgotton in camp. keep the stories alive, and he too will live. Special memories are forged while hunting with good friends and loved ones. I propose a toast to your friend, Kurt. Gone before his time, but never forgotten.

Sorry to hear it Slooshark, sounds like you guys have a great group going there. Be strong for His Dad and Grandfather. Such a shame......

Our condolences from my family to you and your crew.

Condolances and prayers from Ft. Mac.
I have a 17 year old son and a 20 year old daughter, and know that the loss of either of them would be tremendous....

Please offer my condoleances to the family. I cannot begin imagine the grief that losing a son (and a close friend) at a such a young age can be like.
