Farmland Invaders on Canada in the Rough

I hope some of you caught that episode... that was one of the best I have seen on his show.
Steve Corlett did a bit on the damage caused by groundhogs, he is a friend of mine and also the Leupold scope supplier in eastern Canada, hell of a nice of a guy.
They covered the economic impact of coyotes on farmers and the OFA rep said Ontario needs more Hunters!

I enjoyed the show this morning. Ground hogs are sure a lot bigger than the gophers we have out here! Nice to see an episode a little different than most of their shows, varmint hunting is a blast (pardon the pun).

I couldn't believe the size of those groundhogs! Nothing like that in my neck of the woods. They sure dig one hell of a hole as well. I can understand why the farmers want them controlled!

It was a good episode and I enjoyed it, but IMHO they could have dedicated 2 or 3 episodes to the topic (cross-country would be great). Having input from farmers and demontrating the damage done is an excellent PR move.

On the radio in Regina Saturday:

"The gopher infestation in Southern Saskatchewan is so bad that some fields apear to have been carpeted."

...and the stupid hippies are holding hands singing Kumbaia because some of their campaigns are working and "and all these gopher lives are saved".

These people would and will try "to save the life of an asteroid on a collision course with Earth".

People who don't understand that hunting is the best way to preserve our enviorment and maintain a ballance within individiual echo-systems, don't deserve to be at the top of the food chain.

I caught a bit of the show at the beginning and the end where they shoot the yote. What were they using for calibres?? I thought Micheal Olsen was going to cook up the yote or some hawgs:D

In S. Ontario, the Canada Goose should be added to that list of pests as well.
Darn right. The damn things are everywhere this year despite the longer seasons. I watched a mini-van just about lose control and end up in a very deep ditch this morning just because some soccer mom swerved to avoid a goose.

i caught the last 15 minutes of that show today. Saw most of the coyote hunting not much ground hog. I didnt catch what cailper of gun they were using, but they were some pretty far shots. Mange looked to be pretty bad last winter(if thats when it was filmed)

"...cook up...some hawgs..." Why not? They eat the same thing cows eat and don't have any growth hormones etc. Game meat is the original organicly grown food.

Cows don't eat other cows though... (unless we feed it to em!) those little buggers eat a lot more than just grass:p

Thomas was shooting a 223 Sako and Len was shooting a 22-250 Savage when he shot his hog at 276 Yards. Good show

I did see that show and it's the only really good show I've seen so far in the series.

I liked the show as well coast to coast would be neat,I agree that showing the damage was a very smart move. Most people don't get how bad it can be. A left in-law of mine tried to give me grief over a 4000 round gopher shooting day then we did the math counting on a 50% hit rate that gives 2000 less gopher and since most rodents eat thier wieght(~1lb) in food every couple of days that works out to at least 4000 lbs saved every week off of 5 quarters of pasture. Funny how quick the argument ended after that.

Up untill last week CITR was my only option and now that I have Wild TV it still stands up to 90% of what I have seen so far.

Saw a show on saturday where there was a world recod shot it was for cross bow estate elk. ick world records for canned hunts compared to that crap CITR is emmy award winning.

But hunting show preferences is another thread.
