I think I am gonna have to go ahead and kind of disagree with you there...lol

Trying to manipulate the mag catch while holding onto the spent mag and "save" the mag while flipping it around may take more time marginally...also the mags taped together are now bottom heavy and awkward to swing around accurately into a rock and lock system (practice may improve speed in this case...but how much practice) Not to mention that most mags infield are not taped together but just your own, this means that now you have to learn two systems of body memorization skills

Compare that to grabbing a fresh mag and then simply flipping your thumb at the button and then sweeping out the mag in one motion while then locking in the fresh one that you didn't have to flip around awkwardly.

For Tac-Rifle matches, I made a trigger-finger extension tab for mine, and always reload hot to avoid having to do the "reach-around" :p. Seems to be pretty fast. The empties drop free if desired, so I can be pulling a new mag while the old one is being dropped.

LOL,

I have friends who have been through military training in former commy bloc. They showed me how to do AK mag change in army way.

The difference is:

1. Those countries are not rich enough to drop mags in training - so the first step is to remove the mag and put it back (or down)

2. In prone position, you can't do what's in the video since AK mag wouldn't eject. You have to remove it with your hands.

3. When you change mag, you step back and cover yourself first, not necessarly have to point the gun all the time.

4. It takes lots of training to learn what's in the video.

They will just use left hand turn gun 90 degree, and use low part of right hand to push the release while the hand holding the mag - all in one move, very fast - believe me. Then put mag back and install another. Then shoulder the gun while chambering the first round.

This method works very well with taped mags. Almost any body can do it faster than the tough guy in the third video.

You do however need to learn how to shoulder the gun fast.

I run an Ak by grabbing a mag from my rig - bringing it up - bumping the mag catch dropping the empty in the mag well - and rocking in a new one - twist the rifle 90 to the right and underhand rack.

I cant watch the vid's right now as my bandwidth is limited.

Quick question.
Why twist the rifle 90 ot the right and do an underhand rack for right handed shooters?

Wouldn't twisting 90 to the left and an overhead rack be easier? Especially without any optics and only iron sights?

Maybe it'll be obvious when I get a VZ58?

stoppages clear easier, I used to roll it left - but this way I have the gun canted to the right anyway to load - so it just needs to go a few more degrees and cocked

You won't have to twist the VZ as much - the bolt handle is angled upwards a bit making it easier (I would think as I've never worked the bolt on an AK:mad:) to work the bolt. You won't be able to do the fast mag change in the second video though...the mag catch on the VZ is too close to the trigger guard.

Makes sense, if you're already rolling it for the mag change. Thanks

It would require less movement and coordination to reach underneath and rack it with your left hand. Once the action is cocked it takes less time to then place your hand on the handguard and put rounds on target.

Silly Question.
The guy in the 3rd video turns it right then left then level ... ejects the mag ect
Why does he do the 2 twists before the mag is released...
thanks

silly Q part 2
now that I think about it why are they having to slide the action with thier clip hand.
If they were changing mags " hot " ie one in the tube then you dont have to touch the action
and
auto's I shoot or have shot, when the clip is dry . the action stays open.
slide in a mag and release the action with the button.
Am i missing somthing here ????

on both videos they are dropping mags. It actually isn't any slower to remove mag with your left hand and drop the mag into puch, fish out full and stick it back in. With AK's its grab and pull deal, release pedal is so located. Your left hand is on the foregrip and it goes down towards the pouch anyway, so making it do something usefull on the way down is not a problem. And I used to release bolt with my right hand, for some reason it made the whole process less laborious, sight picture stays intact, no rocking or moving a gun.

Watching guy on third video made me motion sick almost, his hands flying like propeller blades or something. Now, make that guy scared for his life and see if he can pull the same trick with observing the chamber or whatever is that he is doing.

Mind you I still like AR better.
