Fast twist .223 barrels?

Anyone here playing with anything faster twist than the 1 in 7? I am wanting to get into the game for next year and am doing my research on what to get. I am not sure whether I want to buy a Savage FTR or LRPV or build something off a Stevens 200 or Rem 700. Who makes a 1 in 6 or 1in 6.5 twist?

There is no point as there are no bullets manf that need a twist faster then 7

Twist rate is only one function of bullet stability. Before you go buy a specialty barrel, do the math and see if it's worth it.


I'm assuming you're close to sea level but unless you're shooting in really cold high pressure weather, it may or may not be worth it. You can always switch to a double base powder for extra MV and thus higher bullet RPM.


Check out this great calculator for bullet stability factors. 1.0 and up are 'stable'. Less than 1.0 is unstable. Aim for 1.2-1.4.
