Faster to reload with stripper or mag?

The person who has practiced the most is faster, but IMHO the stripper clips are quicker...then again if a guy could simply load in one 75 round drum, then this would be a moot question. :D

I've seen both used in timed match conditions and stripper clips are much faster. It does take a little practice and minor alterations to the stripper clip, though.

One issue (that affects this) is the fact that the SKS-D doesn't have a hold-open bolt latch.

If it did, things might be different.

Strippers, because eventually you run out of mags and need to reload those too don't you :p

Your right, but then you need one of these to reload the AK mags with the stripper clips.

Hey, I have an AR and don't ever remember feeling inadequate because I have no stripper clip ability! LOL

However, I do like that feature on my SKS as it's not a "D" model, so takes a little longer to manually fill up.

Had a D and got rid of it, was slower trying to rock the ak mag in just right and then chambering a round than it was stuffing 5 rounds into the top via a stripper clip on my regular models.

When you use an SKS in a speed match, a trimmed charger clips is very effective. Ensure that you can fit 5 rds on your clip, mark a line, then cut along that line with a pair of garden shears. Use the edge of a hammer to crimp down the end that you cut. Use a bench mounted grinding wheel to smooth any burrs then paint the end that you trimmed. This will ensure under duress you insert the proper end into the SKS.

It take a bit of time, but when you are racing an electronic timer, it is worth it.

That's cool - never thought to do that...I have a zillion strippers too.

+1 for the stripper clip . In three guns i leave five rounds on the ten round clip , personally I find it allows me to reload quicker than the shortened versions ( don't have to be concerned what end your grabbing or what end goes into the gun ) . If memory serves correctly in the last three gun I was second ( behind @ 2 seconds ) on a 40 round stage . 7 shooters , cx4 storm won , not bad considering I went hose mode and shot about 50 rounds .

For our purposes, I don't think that the deciding factor here is the operator. It's the fact that when you open up a czech crate, you have 224 loaded 5rd mags in front of you!!!

I went through almost a whole box in one sitting once while playing a gong shooting game. I ended up putting the gun down because the handguard was charring, while standing in a pile of green cases with a huge smile on my face :) i don't think I could have fed it with mags that fast.

I have shot the ORA vintage rifle match (old rifles at 100 yards, standing at snap and movers; 200 yards deliberate and rapid fire; and 300 yards deliberate).

For the rapid fire match I shot a SKS with a 10 round stripper loaded with 5 rounds. It was fast and I think faster, with less fuss than changing mags on my AR-15. I don't see any advantage to cutting the clip. I just left the 5 rounds at one end.
