Fastest .22 Semi?

With the right ammo my 10/22T shoots as fast as I can pull the trigger. Unless you go to full auto I am not sure what can be faster??

wild1, I was referring to the fastest cycling semi-auto .22 - not all semi's are created equal.. :)

I recall a test of the fastest semi-automatic shotguns, where the Browning Gold/Winchester version was fastest, followed by the Auto-5, then the Benelli semi, then the Rem 1100. I'll try to find the link, just for illustration purposes (after all, this is a rimfire thread)!

any blowback gun (basically ALL 22 semi's) is going to be FAR faster than you are. The 10/22 full auto conversions out there can dump a full 25rd mag in under a second

I think the proper question is more like fast and reliable. My Cooey would start to slow down after a box of CIL or 2. My Ruger is way faster and a whole lot more reliable. Don't matter how fast it is if it wont keep playing. I hate field stripping and cleaning cantankerous semis. But a fully auto conversion for the Ruger sounds like too much fun. Where can I get one? Of course they are legal....

skeetgunner: the 552 is noted for being one of the only semi's capable of feeding long-rifle, longs and shorts. Something to do with its chamber-construction.

bogie: reliable speed is of course preferred.

Wrong Way: I know that "hotted-up" ammo can help fully-automatic weapons cycle faster, so I suppose that same logic should also apply to hotted-up rounds inside the actions of semi-automatics. What ammo do you use that you consider to be "hot"?

prosper: Thanks for that P.O.V.

Good point Cyclone. Didnt think of that side but makes much sense. I seem to be going to CCI Minimags. My 1022 seems to like them more than anything else and no fizzles or dryfires ever. Seems to be a decent ammo. Would you consider this to be a hotter round than most off-the-shelf stuff? Certainly seems to occupy a high point in targets compared to all the other stuff I test fired and tighter groups too.

Bogie, come on this is Canada, not the USA, where with the right cross checks and licencing, one good US citizen may own a full auto depending on the state you live in.
(unless you are grandfathered as a "bona fide" collector of full automatic firearms in Canada/licenced since 1977-78 or so)

I find it surprizing you do not know this basic law here?

I regards to fastest firing semi auto rifles:
The only reason I purchased a Ruger 10/22 in South Saskatchewan was that it took alot more firing of ammo (500-700) rds before it would hick-up and require cleaning.
For the most part too, all this usually entailed was a spray with WD-40 or automotive brake cleaner, and I was good to go for another 200 rounds or so.

My older but still fun Winchester 490 required cleaning every 400 rounds or so.
Oh by the way when the 490 was clean, it was just as fast firing as the 10/22!

Why? Bill Ruger knew firearm design, the surface area on a 10/22 is much bigger.
Takes alot more carbon build up to slow it down.

Anyone who has found a way to make a .22 semi cycle through a full mag at it's maximium rate in Canada is probably doing something illegal. All of the semis mentined here will cycle much faster than you can pull the trigger. I think the speed of a semi is a matter of perception. I have a voere semi with a huge heavy bolt that seems to cycle in slow motion. Kaaaa-chunnnkk, Kaaaa-chunnnkk, Kaaaa-chunnnkk. My custom 10/22 seems to cycle faster. snap snap snap.
But both take exactly the same amount of time to fire ten rounds, that time depends soley on how fast I can squeeze them off. I have an open-bolt gevarm with a very slow lock time, but even that doesn't slow down the rate at which I can empty a mag. If anything, trigger pull weight, pretravel, and overtravel might make a difference in how fast you can fire, but the time it takes a bolt to return to battery is so much faster than the time it takes you to release and squeeze the trigger that IMO it is irrelevant.

As reg said I think it all really narrows down to how fast YOU can pull the trigger. I have maybe 3 semi .22's and I can preatty well shoot them all at the same rate even though one of them seems to cycle much faster than the others (10/22 seems to cycle preatty fast).

I would look instead at getting a semi .22 that is reliable and accurate - instead of how fast it cycles.

Yes Brutus, I know this is Canada (happy Canada Day by the way to all) and I am all too well aware that fully auto weapons of any kind are in the hands of guvamint troops and all that. It was a joke cuz I knew it was made of unobtanium. However, there is always a possibility that some friggin anarchist has figured out a way. Ya just never know eh? I currently own 3 22 cals. I have a Browning BL22, the Ruger 1022 and an old Savage Stevens bolt action. The Ruger is still the funnest of all-except for the Ruger No 1 223 which still qualifies as a 22. Fun thread guys-keep it going.

Yes I must admit Bogie...22 semis can be real fun...

Cheers and have a Good Canada Day!!!
PS My 490 was my favorite once...it just that it could not take the constant high volume use
without frequent maintenance.
