Fastest 22LR Ammo

Probably a CCI Stinger, still.

A Stinger with about half the bullet cut off is even faster.

Doesn't help you at all, if you cannot hit what you aim it at. Some guns don't like Stingers.

Got money to burn? The thrill wears off fast at six bucks or more, a box.

If your rifle won't handle 1600 fps, 32 gr. stingers (like the 10/22), then next best might be CCI velocitors. Very nice hunting round, at 1435 fps, and 40 grain.

most 22rf rifles shoot best with "standard velocity" ammunition. There are to many reasons to go into this here, so I won't. While training junior shooters, with many different rifles and models, there was only the very odd rifle that would shoot extreme velocity ammunition well. Some of the semi auto rifles wouldn't function with standard velocity ammo when they were dirty, but they did shoot better.
I know, it's more of a kick to blast away with super vel ammo but, if you're interested in tiny groups, either match grade or standard grade are best overall.
Six bucks a box, try purchasing some "Gold Medal Match", it will put a knot in your shorts.

Bearhunter, I had to do a double take! You said exactly what our juniour shoot trainer say's only you dont live in Ontario :)

+1 btw to what he said. I moved from Gold Medal Match to Elly Target but Gold Medal Match is where to start for very small groups!

I'm well aware of the rice that target guys and gals have to pay to get the 'good' stuff.

It's by far cheaper to crack a second or third round off in the general direction of a gopher, than to pay that kind of money. :) If I have to....:D

I've had pretty good results with Winchester Wildcats, for field use. The guys I knew that were die-hard premium ammo users mostly just had less shooting for their money.

While not THE fastest, remington yellow yackets are another option for "hyper" velocity ammo. They shoot well in my rifle and are great on game.

Thanks for all the info.
I have been trying several brands to see which one results in the best groups.
So far, the stingers give the best results and that's why I thinking of speed.
I rarely use my 22 to tag those poor defenseless gophers (I prefer my 223:evil:)
I'll try the elley as I haven't tried those.

My Marlin 60 doesn't shoot stingers very well.. but loves Yellow Jackets. They are my hunting round, and what I'll use for gophers this spring.

Have some velociters, but haven't tried them yet. They are supposed to pack a wallop. Hope they shoot well too.

Aguila Super Maximum is a bit faster than CCI Stingers at 1740 fps (30gr).

Good luck finding some of it in Canada though.

Apparently there is a dealer in Ontario that brings them in a few times a year. I met him at a gun show in Regina but he only had the .22 sniper rounds with him.

I'll see if I can find his business card. He says he does nation wide shipping.

Remington yellow jackets and CCI stingers are quite high velocity pretty good accuracy with the stingers in most guns ive tried so far as well;)....

I did a comparison test comparing CCI stingers and Federal blue box, using a 2L plastic bottle filled with water and the Federal made a small hole on entry and cracked the exit about 3 inches. The CCI mangled the bottle and almost split it all the way around and split the top wide aswell. Quite a difference. You get what you pay for. Both were hollowpoints.

Guys, this thread got me wondering if the advertised velocities were accurate, so I got my trusty Chrony out today and an old single shot Cooey 39 and ran a few tests. The Chronograph doesn't stretch the truth like manufacturers do!Ha! Ha! Now the Cooey has a fairly short barrel so maybe the velocities hadn't reached their peak compared to a long barrel, but most .22 rifles we use these days don't have a real long barrel anyway. Stingers are supposed to be going 1600 or so but they sure don't out of a Cooey 39! The best I saw was 1362 on the display. Velocitors came in at 1221 for their highest speed and Yellow Jackets beat them at 1258. The Winchester stuff you get at Walmart in the boxes of 333 rounds came in at 1208 FPS and the Winchester Xpert came in at 1117. Thunderbolts were 1122FPS. The rest I tested were subsonics, shorts and CB's just to see what they really were doing. I won't bother listing all those ones. I guess out of all the ones I tested the 333 count boxed stuff from walmart was the best bang for the buck in the high velocity stuff. I can't remember what I paid for it, but it was sure a lot cheaper than some of the other high velocity stuff. If anyone has tried any other HV.22 rimfire on a Chrony that I didn't sample, I'd sure love to know what they got for results.
