You are out in the truck, drive to your spot, and get out. You slam the door, and a huge... whatever.. jumps up in front of you.
You grab your rifle, Your mag (if the rifle has one) is out of reach on the passenger side, and reach for a loose round in your pocket.

What rifle would you rather have for speed of loading just one round?

A beak action H&R or NEF.These things are fast to load with the first shot.
577/450 Martini Henry.
Really BIG breach, big , easy too handle cartridge, and big, easy to crank lever.
in fact , everything about that rifle is BIG!!:dancingbanana: .
Ruger No.1 loads fast also, as do the Brownings.
I think thhe Martini is thhe fastest loading of the bunch however....

The question is flawed because a true road hunter ALWAYS has the magazine for his 760 in his pocket while in the truck. :D

Don't you mean to say...ALWAYS has the magazine for his 760 in his GUN!!

My vote for quickest to load goes to the Trapdoor springfield! :p

I thought about that , but having used one can tell you it isn't as fast.
Springfield has a hammer that has to be cocked, the martini doesn't.

A model 94 Win is pretty fast, with the action open, drop a round in the top, give it a little shake with the muzzle pointed down and close her up

Not that I have one, but a 7400/750 is up there on the speed list too. You can have the action open, just drop a shell in and hit the button.

That is the prob with many levers... they take a little shaking to get them in the tube. It is worse with any mag fed semi or pump action missing the mag... you pretty much have to hold the reciever sideways and pointing down to get a cartridge in the chamber.

This is a job for single shots, blind well/hinged floorplate bolts, or semi shotguns which are the fastest for single shell loading.

Here in NB it is VERY illegal to have a loaded gun in a vehicle. This includes cartridges in the magazine, but the chamber empy or even leaning a loaded gun against a vehicle or shooting from the hood of a vehicle.

I know ............................. it's STUPID!!

I've always liked the Browning A-Bolt with the floor plate/mag combo

The mag clips on the floor plate so its just a slam up and throw the bolt and your in buisness.

But... I really like my BLR. once the mag is in its pretty quick to cycle.

BOOOOO! You've obviously never tried to do it fast with your hands shaking. It sucks.

This situation is more about preperation before you need to get out of the truck.

I drive with a shell between my fingers on my top hand on the wheel and have three more on the butstock cover. I have a bolt action with a floor plate and keep the action open. See something or get out of the truck click the round down and close the action and am ready to go nothing is faster. If I have time I can load the others off the stock.

As to the fastest guns bolt actions with floor plates and single shots as all you need is a shell that can be in a hand while you drive. Magazines always end up in the wrong pocket or an ashtray or slid under the seat. Don't get me wrong they are handy and can be fast but just not as fast for one shot.
