I was talking about modern/current production shotguns. I have 2 Winchester 1300 type shotguns. Super slick. I have a mossberg 500 as well and have owned an 870. My biggest gripe is how hard the pump is to move after firing. If you hold the winchester in 1 hand it will eject the shell on its own like a semi auto. The benelli I had would do it too. The Mossberg/Remmy ....not so much.

I bought a new BPS 3 years ago, but thanks to a gun dealer with lots of patience (thegundealer.net), I was able to manipulate every new pump model on his racks. My requirement was the smoothest pump available. The BPS beats any benneli, winchester, remington, ect.

I probably went through 8 or 9 guns before picking the BPS. It also earns me the coveted left side spot in the duck blind every time. Bottom load/bottom eject means no more brass down my jacket!

Ithaca Model 37.Have used the Remington Model 870,Winchester Model 12,Winchester Model 2200,Browning BPS and Browning Model 12.The Ithaca Model 37 in my opinion is the fastest, slickest and smoothest of them all.

Well I'll wade into the argument here. I wanted a pump for shooting sporting clays and hunting, I went 1300 all the way. For clay games I could not find a faster cycling pump. So since the post asked what the fastest slickest pump is I don't think an 870 has a chance.

An 870 may be a better pump overall though...

Now an 870 which I have shot a lot of may be supioror

I never used it but my buddy has a winchester speed pump, it is like a half semi where it uses the energy to push the pump action back and all you do is push it forward. So you only do half the pumping. I found it very cool.

The Model 31 was later used as a basis for the modernized and simplified Mossberg 500, 590, 835 and Maverick 88 shotguns. The biggest differences being the use of aluminum alloy receivers in most variants.
