Funny thing is I know guys that hunt with that group and it was the victims fault. From memory he stood up into the shot or something.

that was a few years back.

the 2 on the quad were hunting and it was another member of their party that shot them, and yes this was a long time ago when we were required to wear orange.

shortly after the government looked into studies that showed that wearing orange reduced accidental shooting and there was no evidence, as well only hunters were required to wear orange so everyone else in the woods was wearing whatever they wanted.


I suspect that the technique of 'pushing bush' towards a line of shooters is a lot more dangerous then not wearing orange.

I grew up learning to shoot with my dad and army folk. The mantra was better to let 10 deer go than take a risky shot at something moving which you cant identify. All the talk I heard from hunters in daylight seemed to confirm that everyone was 100% clear eyed and deliberate in their hunting.

Then I went to my first big hunt camp that served a dozen or so hunting parties in the area. Out comes the rye and the stories. I wanted to guess that the city folk would be the most careless but it was in fact a certain breed of local yokels that made my toes curl with dozens of stories of being half cut and doing mag dumps on anything that made a noise in front of their stand. As a young inexperienced hunter it was appalling how cavalier some of these guys were. When I asked them if shooting at noises ever resulted in getting a deer, they looked at me like my hair was on fire. Of course not was the reply, but one day it might. First time I thought that maybe a ban on handling loaded firearms while under the influence of alcohol might be a good idea.

That actually IS law most places down here, doubly on CCW--even if I'm not drinking, I can't even sit in the bar section at a restaurant for example. Which makes life real interesting since the bar seats are always closest to the door and the ONLY ones my mother is willing to walk to when I have to do lunch with her, even when I push her wheelchair...
 
Used to work at a gunshop may years ago. Hunters used to come in for supplies or to sell a firearm etc. We used to ask how did the hunt go, etc. Some got deer, moose, ducks, geese, etc.....then you get the guy who wasn't sure if he hit anything but took some "sound" shots. You know..the "I heard a sound so I shot at it" a-hole. We wanted to jump over the counter and beat the fur out of the guy.

So true my friend. Several of us were whitetail deer hunting in the late 1990s south of Moose Jaw actually quite close to Gravelbourgh but along the Wood River.

We teamed up with a bunch of army vehicle mechanics from the same base whom were also deer hunting conspiring for deer drives.

After one time I was pushing deer with my buddies one of these vehicle mechanics got cross with me.
Apparently I somehow fouled his chance to shoot his deer merely because I walked into his sight picture.
It's a little besides the point but this dude had a heavy Newfie accent and carried a bubba'd tree oh tree.

Wonders never cease. And I am very glad we never hunted alongside them ever again.
