Noticed that I'm a bit lighter than I'd like to be for good hunting .22 Magnum ammunition.

Wondering what you guys, and your rifles favour for ammo for medium or bigger sized game? Looking for something consistent that penetrates deep, yet still expands.

Thanks guys. Have high hopes for the heavier bullet stuff, like the 45 gr. soft points, and 50 gr. Federals but have not tried them on anything big.

Thought the Maxi Mags with the hollow point and regular 40 gr. bullets might be a too fragile. Good to know that they are not.

Has anyone used a 22 MAG on coyotes? Close range only, max about 75 metres. I was thinking about getting a semi in 22 Mag as we hunt bush and 75 is about max. Savage makes one as does CZ. The CZ looks prettier but costs quite a bit more. Thanks.

CCI 40 gr Maxi mag HP or Gamepoint JSP have taken coyotes for me. Both are accurate and interchangeable for point of impact in my Zastava. I try for head shots and keep the range at 100 yards or less. Not like it doesn't work, but I feel a little more prepared taking out a centerfire.

I have used .22lr on yotes and now always carry a few cci velocitors while hunting small game.

The 22 mag, was the first rifle I ever bought in the late 60's as I was an avid ground hog hunter at that time. Winchester ammo in 40gr. HP is all I have ever used over the years as it has never gave me any reason not to. Shot a lot of critters with it from small to big. Bigger stuff is well served with a tap to the head with a solid. The 22 mag with 40gr, HP should never be underestimated, a very useful potent round out to 100 yds. + depending critter. I also have my Grandfathers Remington 5mm Magnum, another potent little round.

I never used them, but I know of a couple guys who do here in Southern Ontario, they claim that rarely do they have have to take a shot beyond 50-75 yards in the fall when a lot of the corn is still out, and there is a lot of bush interspersed between the corn fields. They tell me that the Coyote population over there is high also, and rarely do they get one that is not mangy.

Back when I used to hunt Coyotes, the .22 mag was on the way out; most were using .222, while a lot (myself included) went with .223. .223 is still the most popular here.

Hornady V-max 30gr 22WMR. I’ve shot coyote at 125 yards with these and with a head shot you only need one round. I use them out of both my Tanfoglio Appeal and Marlin bolt action. They are very accurate out to 150 yards even on a relatively windy day.
