Anybody have recommendations for combat quality shotgun sights/ brands? I've been thinking about ghost rings, do they require solder? I e-mailed mossberg about their kits but recieved no response. Will be using for slug hunting deer/ moose usually from a tree stand.

thanks

wilson combat or LPA is the only way to go..... both are available with front/rear tritium sights.

my preference is the wilson combat sights... have them on both my remingtons, the mossberg came with the excellent mossberg ghost ring sights which are very servicable.

Where can the LPA shotgun sight sets be had and for about how much?
I was looking at the LPA SHT03R fiber optic set for my HP9-1.
I also wonder if it would work with the Wilson +1 extension I have on there, or might it get in the way of the front sight?
Thanks all.

not sure, but the only dealer i have fould that stocks them is Italan Sporting goods in Vancouver.....

the wilson ones are nice, and P&Dent stocks them and has them ready to mail....

thanks guys,

I guess the mossberg and wilson need solder? The lpa looks good. Nice thread about scope options but I think I still want open sights for now.

Has anyone set up a 1913 rail on their shotgun with open sights on it, and then the option of on off scope or aim point? I guess that will require quite a high front sight.

Guys, I tested the LPA for a large police service and they came apart at around 800 rounds of mixed bird shot, buck and slugs. We found that the Wilson was a good sight but don't use the epoxy that comes with it to secure the front sight. Get a gunsmith to drill and tap the front sight and barrel then screw the sight to the barrel... that way, heat won't weaken the epoxy.

I preferred the Wilson sight picture over the LPA anyway... but that's just my 2 cents.

I too have provided and installed many Wilson Combat (aka Scattergun Tech.) sights on police service range guns. If epoxied over the Remington ramp that is silver soldered on and then PINNED, they do not come off, even when the barrel starts to smoke. If you don't do something other than the epoxy the front sight will come off if you get her hot. The sights themselves are very strong and simple.

If you epoxy the Wilson front sight, forget ever trying to re-finish the barrel. Two 1 1/6 rolepins work great. Oh, by the way, 12.5" and 14" barrels will be ready in about a week or so. I have five of each right now to be finished.

thanks for all the replies,

those pics are great, by chance does anyone have a can. $ price comp. already. If I remember correctly the ghost rings are running around $60.

Does anyone besides trit have specific reasons for their fav. sight choices, ie. more robust design, faster target aquisition, cheaper cost, quality materials .....

thanks again

I prefer wilson combat..... they are under $200 for a complete tritium set ( Ithink $125 but don't quote me) they are the most robust I have seen and they do the job without ### looking wings around the front and rear..... if a sight is so fragile that it needs wings then it does not need to be on my shotgun.

my .02$ anyway eh..... if your going to buy the wilson sights, phone P&D because they have them in stock and phil, diane and chris are awesome to deal with http://www.p-d-ent.com/

How are ghost ring sights installed on the receiver(eg Remington 870) and barrel? Drill and tap?

Yes... drill and tap for the rear, epoxy for the front.

I'm waiting for mine (Wilson Trak-Lock II with tritium) in the mail... might bring it to a Smith to get them installed :(
