Federal plastic Gold Medal hulls.
1 ounce of lead shot.
-17.0 gr 700X, Federal 12S0 wad, W209 primer.
-17.5 gr. Red Dot, WAA12SL wad, W209 primer.
Federal plastic (Top Gun) hull
1 ounce lead shot.
-19.0 gr. Tightwad, CB6100-12 wad, CCI209 primer.
-18.3 gr. Red Dot, Federal 12S0 wad, Ched 209 primer.
1 ounce of lead shot.

I shoot a variety of black powder loads in
2 1/2" brass cases, most however are around 80 grains of FFG and 1 ounce of nickle or copper plated shot.
I use unused wads .
I also have a low pressure Smokeless load
For 2 3/4" Federal shells and 700X that develops 5700 PSI according to Hodgdon.

I load 60gr FF, nitro wad, cushion wad, 7/8oz shot, overshot wad. I use this load in Magtech brass and paper/plastic hulls. I shoot the same load in both 12ga and 16ga.

I was reading an article by the Bevel brothers where they had sent for testing 12 ga cartridges loaded with Triple Se7en using fibre wads. They measured as quite low peak pressure. It is tedious I know to load fibre wads (made a box of FFG 1 oz loads last week) but the benefit with the BP substitute is there would be no sulphur smell and greatly reduced fouling.
My load I use when after far flushing sharptails and wild roosters is a bit more powerful , 100 hrains of FFG and 11/4 Oz #6 lead.
I also use the same load except with Bismuth for ducks and geese.
It works well in the replica muzzle loaders as well

WHAT????? No black powder smell??? That’s one of the many great things about black powder is the smell.
I never really thought of it as tedious (unless I am loading completly with hand tools of course) .
When I load i normally load in batches of 50 and use a MVA measure for the black powder , prime ,seat the wads throw the shot charges on a Lynan shot shell loader .
I do however enjoy loading completly by hand as well

Sorry, forgot to mention the grease cookie. When shooting muzzle loaders, I line my cushions either bear grease, with these cartridges, I put a grease wad between the nitro and cushion. For this, I mixed dear grease snd bees wax 50/50, pour it onto cookie sheets to cool (about 2/8 to 3/16 thick) and leave it in the freezer to keep it hard.

The smoke, the smell and the sound are awesome. I will sometimes throw in a black shell when shooting Annie Oakley to distract the next shooter if I miss

Regarding loading
I'm roll crimping with the drill press - also tedious! More than 50 at a time I would find onerous.
Hmm. I lubed my fibre wads by rolling the edges in olive oil but thought I wouldn't be able to load them into cutdown plastic hulls using my MEC press. Therefore I put them together by hand. Maybe I should have just tried it in the press?

I don't lube my cushion wads normally, I have used pre lubed wads but found no difference in killing power.
In my muzzle loaders these days I am using wasp nest between the powder and shot, and a .035 over shot wad.

I assemble all mine by hand……sort of. I do use my coax press to press in the wads and compact the powder. I just made some tools to do it. I also made a crimp die for my magtechs to put a gentle crimp to hold the wad. BTW, I also roll my wads to line just use warm best grease because I have lots.
I prefer to use vintage tools when I roll crimp.
This is for my 16 gauge drilling .
