A fragile bullet reloaded in a too fast of a twist barrel can open mid air and not even reach the target but it's not the bullet's fault. Or , a bullet not stabilized in the wrong twist
That hit the target sideways won't mushroom or penetrate
Properly either. But again , not the bullet's fault.

That’s not the case here. A bullet that has two components that aren’t chemically or mechanically connected can separate when they come to a violent and sudden stop.
 
Wife this spring coyote spun a bear and it dropped on the spot. 10sec death moan and it was over. 243 100gr partition. Worst performance I’ve had yet was also this spring, a 257bee with 100tsx. The bullet did expand but was a little tough for the average size boar. Dead run was 40-45 yards straight into some of the thickest, dirty conifer swamp I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing.

30-30 silvertips. 12 gauge slug. 44mag xtp. 44mag ftx have all worked in under 25yards dead runs.

Up next to try will be 115 ballistic tips in the 257.
 
I’m not sure who you are asking, but they aren’t over bait and are all spot and stalk. I’ve shot a few with the 308 but that is before I carried a camera hunting.
 
If I was going to sit in a tree to hammer a bear I'd probably choose either my Winchester 71 using 250gr Silvertips or my 366 Wagner with 286gr Normas. Out in the open country it would probably be a 30-06 with 180gr Partitions or my 300 H&H with the same bullet.
 
Got one on the weekend... 180gr accubond from my 300win mag. Bout a 50 yard shot heart and lungs ran 30 ft and that's all she wrote.... love the accubonds outa my m77 tangsafety
