Favorite 150 Grain 300WSM load

Specifically 150 grain bullets for deer sized game.

I've been playing around with 150 gr Sierra game kings and so far I have found that 65.5gr of imr 4350 groups just under an inch at 100 yards. I have taken one buck with it and find that the light bullet disintegrates on contact. I'm thinking I have to step up the weight to a 165 or a 180 gr and see what happens this year. I think just guessing since I'm fairly new to hand loading that the speed that the 150 is going is just to much for it to retain any weight after contact. Just my guess.

Muckwa, your guess is dead on!! Those light, thin jacketed Sierras are simply disintegrating when they hit.

To the OP: If you feel you must use 150's in that WSM, you had best choose a "Premium" bullet. [Partition, TTSX, A-Frame, GMX, etc]

Cup and core bullets will not work well at WSM velocities, particularly at ranges under 200 yards.

However, if you are using a good 150 grain bullet, you may want to try Reloder 17 [start at about 65 grains and work up carefully.]
