Favorite .22 hollow point cartridge?

OK, you can scratch the Aguila high velocity 38 gr hollowpoint of my favourite list. I tried 50 today and they suck. OK, to qualify that remark, the didn't feed and function as well as plain old Fed #745, and from the sound, the velocity was wildly variable.

And the worst part is they stink like burning rubber when fired.

For a bolt action, they might be fine, but they won't be going into the R22 anytime soon.

i haven't shot a 22 in a long time, but the last time i was out shooting gophers in the back field with a cooey 22 it was with wiz bangs.

Rem Golden Bullets in the bulk packs. Cheapest coated bullets I have found. Fairly consistant for the price. Barrel stays clean way longer than Winchester Wildcats. When I get serious about hitting something I do not worry about the 22lr and use the 17 anyway so cheap is better.

I like both Winchester Power Points, and the CCI Velocitor. Both work well on gophers at reasonable distances. My Ruger 77/22 will shoot both into an inch at 100yds.
Are we talking 3 shots @ 100 here or 5 shots or 10? If the latter, I will have to see it to believe it. Eagleye.

I can scan you one of my 100 yard targets. A cluster of 10 holes that you can cover with a fingertip, shot with CCI Stingers. 3/4" maybe?

I can line up 10 12 gauge hulls at 100, and hit at least 9 of them out of 10 consecutive shots repeatably.

My .22's not really a sporter though, has a heavy barrel & a small amount of custom work.

22's are capable of surprising accuracy.

I shoot sub 1" , 5 shot groups at 100 yards with an old mossberg chuckster in 22 WMR. Never tried with 22lr.

And I avoid remington rimfire ammo (unless they've changed it recently) I always found it burned dirrrrty. Federal and CCI are my preferred rimfire suppliers now that Imperial/CIL are gone.

I've been waiting to hear from someone who actually had one. How well does it work?

CCI subsonics; accurate, consistent, quiet, 40 gr bullet with large cavity, clean burning, and will feed and function in all my semi's. If you have'nt tried them, give them a whirl, far superior to the remington sub's and more consistent than pmc moderater's.

I try the CCI subsonics last week and they were great out of my R22, quiet and they grouped great. Too bad they dont sell them in bulk packs

400 gophers

All with power point from three shooter. Very accurate for 22 hollow point and it left a field of bodies, with very few making it to a hole.

Hope that answers your question
