So I purchased a new 300 win mag for an Alberta elk hunt this year but want to also use the rifle for medium sized game (black bears and whitetail). What round would be recommended for medium sized game with this caliber.

You won't go wrong with the 180 Accubond. I've shot asiatic water buffalo and a grizzly with those, along with many dozens of other game. They hit like a Partition and fly like a Ballistic Tip.

A slightly more specialized choice is the 190 grain Long Range Accubond. If your rifle will shoot them the lack of drop and wind resistance at long range stagger the imagination. You just might think your calculator is busted.

If totally lacking in imagination a totally boring 180 grain Hornady flat base Interlock will kill all the elk, deer and bear you point it at.

I've had really good luck with Hornady 180gr SP and the cheap Remington cor-lok 150gr. My brother and i are going to load up a few rounds with the good old 180gr sierra Game Kings. my dad swears by them.

Was thinking on getting into reloading, now I dont shoot a whole whole lot so I am not sure if it would be worth my money and time. I guess its a good hobby but would it actually be worth getting set up for just a few hunting rounds???

Also thanks for the suggestions will be trying some of the suggested rounds and see how the gun likes em.

I am currently using a 190gr Hornady BTSP propelled with H-4831 @ 3050fps. Decent accuracy out to 400y. Dead hold out to 300.

For factory shells, I have very good luck with Federal Fusion 180gr ammo. Took a nice spike Bull Elk last year with this combo. 1 shot DRT. I still have 3 or 4 boxes around somewhere.....

Cheers!

Now the 210s might make for a very interesting bullet in my ATRS 300 WM. Possibly the best of both worlds, excepting my fantasy Bismuth-Bonded-ULD-Partition.

Maybe. The 190 trots out of muzzle at 3200 fps in the .300 I'm using them in. BC is BC but by dint of higher starting velocities the lighter bullet is edging out the 210 by 3 MOA at 1000. The heavy bullet is a tiny bit better in the wind. You could Limely go with whichever shot the best.

I broke down and traded for T/C pro Hunter 300 wm. barrel
It's the first real magnum rifle I have don't realy know what expect in terms of recoil how does it compare to 450 marlin ?
