Favorite 9mm Powder

I have used 231/HS-6 and Titegroup but have settled on 3.5Gr under a 147Gr CMJ for an average FPS of about 990. Also my powder for 45 so that helps.

Promo

I have had some very good results with Alliant's PROMO powder. It is a bulk powder, sold in 8 pound cannisters. Anywhere between 3.6 and 3.8 with a 130 grain cast bullet works great. Over 4 grains and I would switch to another powder type.
Have used Unique too, but ended up dropping the recommented load down quite a bit. Dropped it down so much, that PROMO is a little bit less with the same results.
SuperField works well too. You will probably discover that if your barrel is four inches or a little more, fast burning powder works best. My pal Len uses Bulleseye and Titegroup will good results.
The best bang for the buck stills remains PROMO.

Semi-dumb question, and not meaning to hijack, but:

I am going to start reloading 9mm. Any recommendations on a book that covers reloading that well? I had a look at the new Hornaday manual today, and I think the whole article is half a page, and minimal info on different powder types and quantities.

Thanks.

231 under my 124 gr truncated lead bullets for IDPA/IPSC. I love Unique in the 9MM both for lead and jacketed bullets but it doesn't meter as well out of my Dullon so 231 gets the nod. 231 also is my .45acp powder is life is good.

Take Care

Bob
