I ready to start working up a load for my new Savage 12 (bvss) in 223, 1-9. I'd like to pick one bullet/powder and stick with it. It's only 100 yard shooting for groups, just for fun. I have various bullets at home now in 45, 50, 52, 55 and 62 gr weights left over from my rem 700 (1 in 12). The rem loved the sierra 45's with any powder I used and was picky with anything heavier than 50gr. My powder choices to start are rl-15, varget and AA2230 as I have lots of each for now. Just wondering what the other savage 12 owners have had luck with.

For shooting only 100 yards, start with the lightest ones you have on hand, shoot them till you run out of bullets, move up to the next and so on. This way you get rid of all your old and part boxes, and if you keep careful records you will know what to buy more of.

Until you get out past 300 yards, it really won't make much difference what you feed it, or at least all the Savage 223s I have tried haven't cared much.

For 100 yards on paper, I would go with a flat base like the Berger 64 grain Target Varmint. In more windy conditions a Berger 73 grain match target boat tail, may do better.
