Hello Guys and Girl

My question is

I Want to change my barrel for shooting Long Distance

I look for 6.5x47L but i'm open to other choice of Calibre

Can you tell me witch calibre you use and Why?

Thank you for your help and advice

223 cheap to reload , long barrel life, many good long range bullets to choose from provided you have the proper barrel twist for the heavier bullets

I have a Sako AV 338 Win Mag and this is a fine rifle to shoot those
distances past 300 meters with little trouble. Also it still packs a punch
in taking down big game with an ease. My only problem with this is the
cost of the bullets. On an average for a box of 20 I'm looking at about
$100.00 not including tax. But if your looking for a rifle with distance this
in my opinion would be it. Personally, I think, anything in this caliber would be
good as well.

to do what at long distance? Hunt? Hit paper? Benchrest Shooting? Palma? F-class?

The best caliber cartridge choice is the one you master. Beware of the man with only one gun, for he knows how to use it.

6BR or 6 Dasher will get it done. Many 1000 yard records for score and group are still held by this (6br) amazing cartridge.

I shoot a custom 260. Pretty easy to find or fireform brass for. I am building another custom, it will be chambered in .223 so I can save a little money on components.

The 6.5x47 Lapua is a great option too.

Depends if you want to compete or not.
If you want to shoot f-restricted 223 or 308 are your options.

If you want to shoot f-open a big boomer with a high bc bullet up to 8mm would be in order and there are many to choose from I decided on a 284 win .

Within these choices, I would have a very hard time deciding between your 6.5 Lapua and a 6mmbr for paper punching.

But that's just me..........and I'm thinking the smaller 6mm would win, only because of cost and availability.

And it's superb reputation for accurracy helps considerably.

Judging by your choices I am assuming you have a short action with standard bolt face. In which case the 6.5x47L would be a good choice if you plan on shooting out of the mag although case capacity is a little low for 140gr bullet's IMO. The 260rem would be a my choice, you would be able to shoot the 140's at respectable velocities and can also get lapua brass, the only bad thing about it is you have to seat the bullet's quite deep into the case if you are shooting out of a mag.

6.5X47 is poor long range choice. it is best with mid-weight bullets such as the 123 and 130 grain bullets. The best BC's are in the high bc bullets andthose are a bit of a grunt with the lapua cartridge.

The .260 AI has similar performance to the 6.5x284 which is a great long range cal. The 7wsm also does great at long range. The 6BR, 6 Dasher or 6XC also work very well.

Maybe let us all know what kind of long range shooting you want to do, is this for play or for competing in f-class?

x2.

"Best" to do what at 600-1000 yds? If you want to hunt I would say none of the choices you mention, probably better suited to go with a 7mm (.284) size.

Paper or gongs at those distances are a different set of considerations altogether.
