What's your favorite cheap plinking bullet for the 308? Tried using the Campro 147gr FMJ, but can't get it to shoot better than 2.5in @ 50yards...

How hard did you try? 45grn D6064, LC brass and a 147 campro at 2.800" grouped very well out of my STAG-10. I don't have glass on any other .308s but it was pretty impressive.

Those campro are garbage. Hornady 150fmj are a bit better. My old go to for cheap bullets in 308 were the Nosler custom competition. I doubt there are many good cheap bullets available in the current times

Have you tried cast? I have done much better than that with several mid cal military rifles. 03A3. 303 Br, FR7. 8x57, 1936 MAS, 7.7 Jap, couple moisants etc. You need a good bore and possibly some load development. Been shooting cast for over 35 years.

Keep an eye out for the Speer 168gr. They can usually be had for about the same as the campros. Add some D4895 or D4064 and you have a good decent plink load

I also find the Speer 150gr and 165gr BT to be excellent. Can usually be had for $30 a box/100.

Well, the Hirt 74 berdan primer shoot around MOA from my FNAR Competition and my SSG 3000.

Quality surplus, price is fair, not worth my times, unless i could really group better, but with basic components, you may not be able to equal the Hirt performance. YMMV. JP.

The 155 nosler custom competition bullets are accurate and were priced really well when you could find them.

You often can find cheaper 30cal brand name bullets at gunshows too

150 Berry Bullets for 3030.

Shot under a 3/4" group at 100m with them. And cost me less than 30 cents to load.

Now we’re talking! I cast 98 grain 32 cal bullets sized to .309 and popped out of a 30/06 at 1700 FPS with 20 grns of 4198. They are consistently within 1.5” at 50 yards. My cost is about 15 cents .

I’m going to try to beat that by using 00 buckshot sized to .309 ... over 2 grns of shotgun powder. Expect that’ll cost about 10 cents.

I got a pile of Hirtenberger pulled FMJ bullets that shoot very well, better than the Hornady FMJ. But lately I've been using the Hornady 150gr flatbase soft points ("free" bullets when buying Hornady reloading gear). It shoots well from everything except my Winchester Model 100, which is a pile of garbage...
