Guess this type of thread gets run each fall but that aside, what is your favorite deer calibre and bullet choice?

Mine is the 25-06 Rem with a 115 Barnes X or tripple shock as they are called now. Sako rifle.

.270Win = 140gr Nosler Accubond
.30-06 = 165gr BTSP Hornady IL (or 165gr Hornady IB)
.300H&H = 200gr Nosler Accubond
8x57 = 200gr Nosler Accubond

If I were going to use my .45-70 I'd go for the 350gr Hornady IL

Mine is a Sako m75 SS 300Wm with 180gr Accubonds, the other rifle is a Tikka T3 LS 270WSM with 140gr Accubonds. May try reloads of TSX in the 300WM and 270WSm this winter at the range and may use next season.

270 WIN with 130 SST's, drops'em DED dead. I am trying 140 accubonds this year though, so far one elk at 30 yards in the back of the head while he slept. Haven't cut him up yet so can't quote on performance. In the past it has been a 308 WIN using 165 Sierra GK, which is fantastic if you do not load them too hot.

Wooded area - 35 Whelen using 250 grs sp.

Open space - 308 W using 160 grs.

35 Whelen came through over the weekend in heavy wood at approx. 60-70 yds with all kinds of branches, etc, in between. I was surprised with the small amount of meat damage although the bullet hit just in front of the vital organ where extensive damage was caused but very little to the eatable meat.

This was my first experience with this caliber and I'm completely convinced that this is the caliber for my hunting situation.
