What's everyone's favourite scope for coyote hunting? Just bought a new .223 and am looking for suggestions. Probably not shooting past 350 yards too often, and not looking to spend more than the gun im putting it on. Was thinking of a Leupold VX2 or some sort of Vortex. Looking to see what your favourites are.

I went with a Bushnell Legend 4.5-14x44 Scope on my 22-250.

Good price & power range for a coyote rifle IMHO.

Cheers
Jay

VX-2 with a Long Range reticle if you are in that price range, I know you're keeping it under 350 yards but the secondary crosshairs make it easier than guessing holdovers

I have a 2.5-8x on my .223. For hunting I find the low end of the power spectrum is more important than the high end.

VX2 is a solid scope.

I just use a duplex reticle, never had a problem with holds. I use a 200yd zero, and can hold to 325yd using the bottom post.

I know it's out of your budget but I'm running a Vortex Razor AMG 6-24x50 on my 22-250 coyote rig. It replaced a VX3 4.5-14x40 and I couldn't be happier.

This is my way of thinking . High powers are nice to look through but try to find a moving yote and the low power helps at low light also

Ps - leupold = tried and proven

Do you take a shotgun along for the close shots?

No, I don't. It looks like alot of fun getting them in that close. I usually go out solo so by the time I pack out the caller, hide the truck, and walk in.. it gets to be alot to carry haha.

I have a Vortex PST 6-24 on my 300wm. I kind of feel like that might be a bit overkill on a .223 but I could give it a shot.

I like that Leupold has their warranty center in Alberta, kind of why I was leaning towards them.

Thanks for the input guys. Has anyone ran anything similar to the Mark AR MOD 1 1.5-4x20mm?

I've got the Mark AR 1.5-4x20mm with Firedot on my AR15 but I would want more than a 20mm objective for low light. Also 4x would leave a song dog pretty small out there at 350.

I'd recommend the Mark AR Mod 1 3-9x40mm though and the Firedot reticle would be great for low light.

I have a Sightron S-Tac 3-16x42 on my Modern Hunter in 6.5 Creemoor

Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40 on the ACR

And for up close Aimpoint PRO on my Derya MK-12 (12ga) :p

I would look for something like the S-Tac 3-16 (around $1000), nice and low at 3x but still goes high enough to reach out if needed. Great glass, simple and easy to use reticle and great capped turrets.
All of them would work well on a 223 for coyotes, but something like the Mark AR 3-9 might be best for your setup and what I'm imagining your budget is since you said you don't want it to cost as much as the rifle, 3-9 covers pretty much everything and the Mark AR has a BDC elevation turret so you just dial to the yards you are shooting and pull the trigger, 300yds and under wouldn't make too much difference that the turret is for 55gr but further out you would have to practice a bit to see what you need to dial to.

I was running a high end Vortex.
Just switched to a Nikon P223 and it is the cats was for the money you can't beat it.
If your shooting 223 it's worth a look.

I've also got a Rem 700 chambered in Fireball with an older Burris Eliminator 4-12×44 (built in rangefinder) and an AR180B-2 that I either use the irons or a Hilux CMR 1-4×24 depending on my mood.

All this talk about coyote rigs makes me anxious, time to start getting out to the hay field more often :p

Lots of nice optics in the EE if you want to step up the quality without spending a lot more money. Just be sure to buy a brand that has a transferable no questions asked warranty if you're worried about long term reliability. That being said I would avoid all things Vortex, they're a good optic but there is a higher than average chance you'll end up using their great warranty.
