I've pretty much used Remoil forever on my guns. I have read that other lubricants like kroil are superior for preventing rust. I thought kroil was more like WD40(?).
What do you all like to use?

Kroil is most definitely not like WD40.
WD40 was invented as a water displacer, hence the WD.
It is not designed as a lubricant although it has lubricating properties anyways.
It's good for spraying on electrical stuff after it gets wet, like your car's ignition system after you've power washed the engine bay, or gone through some deep water off road.
Kroil is a deep creeping penetrant, perhaps the best on the market according to tests.
I use Kroil as a last resort on stubborn rusted up bolts on my cars, like suspension bolts.
Neither of them are really guns oils.

For long term staorage I've been using a combo of old general purpose heavy grease (axle grease) and a bit of mineral oil to thin it. Just realized I have a bottle of hypoid gear oil.....experimentation time!

Your house must smell real nice with hypoid gear oil on your guns:D

i usialy use some gun oil that i bought from am store. on a hunt a little while ago another guy wanted to use my truck and i would take his quad. i put my gun in his gun boot on the side. well they are full of moisture. when i got to ware i wanted to hunt i pull the gun out and slight rusty film all over the gun.

i too the cap off the rear diff on the quad and dipped my finger in and smeared all over the rifle. worked great for the trip.

Too funny. Man that stuff stinks:)

When my wife (then girlfriend) bought her truck, it had been sitting for a couple of years, so I changed all the gear oil. Unaware of the smell, I was a bit too cavalier, and while lying on by back looking up, I pulled the rear differential bolt and was greated with a stream of fishy smelling oil all over my head. I had to get a haircut the next day and ended up giving the stylist a pretty hefty tip for having to deal with the mess I'd made.

Back on topic, the STAG oil is nice stuff --- I found a bottle at my father-in-laws. Home Hardware still lists it in their catalogue --- look for "58mL Frigidized Gun Oil" --- but too bad if it's not being made anymore.

Island Outfitters in Victoria carries Breakfree CLP, and I wouldn't be surprised if WSS does as well. I bought my Breakfree (the original formula) from Marstar last year. They had a three bottle deal that was good value, even with the shipping.

Fluid film, rust check, and G96. Lighter fluid for cleaning out and protecting triggers (Jewell, don't take apart a jewell) and bolts (cooey single shots) that cannot be disassembled.

I've never tried fluid film or Rust check on a gun. Are they safe for synthetics? Suitable for a barrel?
Has anyone ever heard of "Burkes" gun oil?

Does your STAG oil look like this. I was told by a gun shop no longer available but they have been wrong before. I will be heading to home hardware tomorrow for a case if they have it. It is by far the best gun oil I have ever used and it lasts a long time.

For those of you that are having a hard time deciding on a gun oil the following article made it easy for me. "Automatic Transmission Fluid"

The bottle I had looked like this (sorry, it's a fuzzy stock photo):

It may not be the same stuff you're talking about. Your bottle shows Stag #330, while this one is Stag #301. Maybe the difference is synthetic vs. non? The Home Hardware item number is Item #7670-120Model #301 58ML

My local Home Hardwares don't stock it, but they've always offered to order it in for me. I sure hope it's still available!
