So I, like many, have been bent over and screwed by North American Hunter magazine.

Time for somehing new.

What hunting mags are you folks subscribed to?

I'd like something with a mix of Canadian and American content. Not too much fishing and other stuff. More content than ads is nice (but rare).

Any suggestions?

I find most hunting and shooting magazine articles just regurgitate what has already been printed, and not that well either, in the ones from the 60s to 80s and earlier. Not worth my money nor time. Online forums provide more entertainment and info.

True, but it's often hard to get a data signal up in the little brown shack. Plus, if you run out of tp, an old magazine can come to the rescue! I mean, I suppose an iPad could as well...but...

Admitting up front that it's highly elitist and peppered with ads for places and things that I can never afford, I like the writing and the photography in Gray's Sporting Journal (insofar as it gets away from the same 'expert' opinions regurgitated again and again). Wildfowl is good. I prefer not to subscribe though - that way I can buy different issues of different mags depending what's in them. Grays, for example, does a Guides and Gear annual that is less appealing to me. But their bird hunting annual is great.

Yup. You got that right. I mean how many times do we have to read "How to find and pattern a mature whitetail buck," "Ten tips for hunting mule deer" or "Bugling for big bulls"? All that stuff was covered in the 1950s and 60s.

Okay, sure, if you like first person stories big Buck is okay, but I can scan one of the others on the magazine rack in five minutes and wouldn't waste my money on one.

I stopped with hard print magazines a long while back (circa 2007) I mainly just read articles now on the inter-webs. I don't like reading less than half of a mag and tossing the rest out.

I usually buy a couple per year. Maybe American waterfowler, wildfowl, or fur fish game. I try not to invest much in magazines as they ad up quick in cost for something that just ends up sitting next to the s#!tter for months and get thrown out in the end.

I used to get two or three magazines, but stopped renewing a few years ago. I don't miss them, as they seemed to rehash the same stuff over and over again.

Two of my favourite magazines, though not dedicated hunting mags are, Fur Fish and Game and The Backwoodsman.

After researching all of everyone's great suggestions, these two topped my list.

The backwoodsman interested me most, but only 6 issues per year for $10 more than FFG (which is 12 per year) caused me to choose Fur Fish Game. Hopefully that'll scratch the itch. If not, I'll add the backwoodsman to the stack.

Thanks everyone!
