My first 45/70 was an 1895GBL, I sold it to a good friend, and tried a Henry[20 inch barrel] and a Rossi Rio Grande and I am now back to a 1895ABL, pretty sure I am keeping this one. I also owned a 1894 Marlin in 44 and a Rossi Ranch hand in 44. The 1895 is now my only lever.

Favorite is the Henry mares leg with the extended rear stock. That short 12" heavy octagon barrel just does the right thing. Very close second is any of the Ruger 96 model levers. I believe they are the shortest stroke lever out there, in Canada anyways. I have run the 44 mag and the 22lr.
