Favorite LPVO's?

Hey folks! Planning on picking up a Henry Supreme in 5.56 as soon as they become available (may have to import one).

Planning ahead on what kind of optic to go with and I think I've settled on an LPVO.

What are your favorite LPVO's? I think SFP suits this gun just fine but not against a FFP as long as the reticle is usable and bright enough at 1X. Trying to keep it under $1500. Thanks for reading!

My experience has been only with SFP "hunting style" scopes with a simple reticle like a duplex. Under 1500 you could get a Leupold VX-3 (older or current) 1.5-5x. The current Bushnell Elite 1-4x24 is under 500 and the glass was about the same as the older Elites from what I could see. I had one one and liked it but upgraded to a higher end Leopold for my .375.

In my opinion a "hunting style" scope would be a good pairing for a wood stocked lever action. But then, a lever action that takes AR mags is a bit of a hybrid old and new style so a more modern style of LPVO would also work depending on your taste.

The Henry Supreme is a cool idea and I might get one myself someday.

I don't have enough experience in mid-high-end LPVOs to recommend one in particular. But I know I'm not a fan of the vortex strike eagle 1- 8x FFP, I find it blurry for the $$$.

I have the Discovery Optics 1x8x24 34mm LVPO on my CZ600 7.62x39R Warsaw and love it - nice clear glass and aiming points, especially for about 330.00 CAD or so ... comes with rings - you choose size. I ordered direct ...

Interesting piece. It has adjustable parallax which is a rarity on an LPVO. I like the reticle too!

Not sure a $300 optic (including rings) will last long though. They must have cut corners somewhere lol.

I've used a Burris 1-8x24 XTR II FFP LPVO that is in your budget. It's made in Japan and the reticle is usable at x1 power. Aside from the typical LPVO cons (tight eye box at high power, weight, etc) it was great. I switched it up for a Minox ZP8 1-8x24 which had slightly better glass to my eyes and it has a dual reticle (sfp until x1.5 power than it switches to ffp).

Here's a good review, the 1X size of the reticle and weak illumination looks a bit lacking.... :(

OP your budget is pretty solid, you should be able to get some nice ED glass.
Vector Optics Continental line is pretty nice, they have some #4 German style reticles in 1-6, 1-8 with fiber optic bright red dots and ED glass.... it looks like the basic hunting #4 is sold out in the 1-8 right now but they also offer a similar reticle with hold over dots that is in stock.

Why do people run LPVO on "hunting" rifles instead of a regular 2-7 etc?

Arent they just a lot heavier and darker?
It's the best of both worlds in my opinion. A good 1X that's nice and bright can be almost as good as a red dot... not quite but close. Then you have the option of reaching out with 6x or 8x when needed.

Not perfect as a red dot, not as good as a traditional scope BUT does both very well.

And yes... The zombies don't stand a chance! 😉

Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't heard of Vector Optics until now but looks like they're pretty good. Similar to Athlon products they seem to be quality pieces that punch way above their weight considering the price. I have an Athlon Helios BTR GEN2 2-12×42 FFP scope and it's very good. I was looking at their LPVO offerings and none of them are as good as I was hoping.

I'll definitely put Vector on the short list. Thanks.
