Favorite M-14 Loads? 155gr

Mine likes South African surplus. It should quarter sized groups at 100 yds, and that could be because my hands shake too much.

Nosler Competition 155 HPBT in the bulk 250 pack. It's reasonably price for accurate projectiles. I prefer IVI brass if I can get them with CCI 200 or Win WLR primers and 42.5 grains of H4895. This is my most accurate 300-500 meter load for my M14 for Service Condition match along with the tried and true 168 HPBT (any brand) with 41.5 grains of H4895.

H4895 is the best and I usually spark it up with CCI 200 primers. For real consistency though, I need to stick with the same brand of brass all the time.

I've had super success with the WC735 surplus powder from Higginsons Powders (you can just google them) for around $ 20ish a lb.

I started out at 42.0gr and then kept an eye out for any high pressure signs. Keep it below the H335 powder rate/volume/mass and you will be safe. Be safe! :D

Hope this helps all you WC735 ball powder lovers out there!

Bingo.. somehow I got my hands on some of that stuff too.. :D

While I don't much like it for my .223 it's fantastic in the 7.62  (and at the price point, it offers a lot more 7.62 kitty hunting for a lot less too!)

Barney, what projectile and COL are you using with your M14?

I've got a lot of surplus WC844 that just hums along at 44gn under a 147 milsurp pill... and, in fairness, this stuff seems just a tad hot for 844 so it may actually be 735.

If it is, then it looks like you and I are shooting basically the same load in our M14s rifles! :)

I have had great results with IMR 4895.

40.8 grains.

168 HPBT Sierra Matchking.

And CCI BR-2 primers. But have found Winchester rifle primers to be as accurate as well.

I believe my OAL is 2.850. Just enough to fix inside the mags.

I've been shooting 1 inch groups or under at 100 and 150 yards.

But i'm still puttering around with my loads.

My Recipe

I'm happy to say that I have had tremendous results using Win 748 (45.3 gr), CCI 200 primers, 150 Sierra Spitzer. Using Win brass. M305 shoots 1.5" groups and rings the 300 yard gong every time.

IMR4895 was MILSPEC and as the saying goes, if it won't shoot well with IMR4895, you have a rifle problem. Other proven performers, which are within the M14 gas system's tolerance range, include IMR4064, W748, H4895, BLC2 and H335.
