I thought I’d share a story and photographs of one of my favourites. It’s an old one of a kind 50 calibre cap and ball pistol. Its overall length is 9 inches. The only mark on this one is a P which is a Birmingham proof dating the barrel and lock to around 1850. The wood, trigger guard, key are all hand made along with the box, powder boxes, cap box, ram rod and measure. This pistol was rebuilt around 1910 by a Mr. Mott who lived in Brockville, Ontario and served with the 156TH Battalion CEF Overseas. According to his grandson who sold this piece old Mr. Mott had the barrel, lock, and trigger. He then hand crafted the stock and the accessories out of walnut. The stock is a copy of the original which was badly damaged and the accessories are of his design. It is a fun pistol to shoot but not very accurate. Its been to many shows as well as the range several times and is always quite the conversation piece.
I’ve kept it in my collection as it is both a great old weapon and what I would consider a wonderful piece of folk art. I’ll probably never sell it but will at some time in the distant future give it to one of my sons. No matter what it’s a great little pistol.
Does anyone else have a similar made up pistol or have an opinion as to what it might be worth? Is it collectable? Let’s see some other odd balls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The turtle in the picture is not being exploited nor was it taken illegally. I assure you he has been dead a lot of years. It just did a great job of holding the pistol up to take the photographs.
