Favorite target load?

A friend and I talked to the Kent Cartridge rep and asked him to bring in a half dozen flats of it in various gauges. One of our local dealers that carries Kent loads ordered a few flats for himself, which he later sold on the shelf by the box. The dealer made up the rest of a pallet order with other Kent lead and steel products and all we had to do was pick up our shells at his store when they came in.

We only use them for hunting, so they've lasted several years and will continue to do so for several more.

Thanks. For some reason, I think I have asked you this before.

Rem gun club seem to work best, $57/flat. top gun is second, and the winchester super target are crap.

Unfortunately the only shells in that price range I can get my hands on around here (GTA) are the super targets (agreed they are not the greatest) and, lately, challenger. I've never seen Rems at that price, and rarely top guns. Would be nice to have some options!

Lawry's is selling Top Gun for $54.95.

i actually find it kind of amazing the way the prices have been close to the same for man years. Very small fluctuations. When I first started trap shooting factory ammo came in a 500 round(20 box) case and varied around $110 -$120 / case for shells like Gold Medal, AA's, etc.. Non premium varied from $80 - $100 case depending on brand and we all reloaded because it was half the price of factory. Now the saving in reloading is negligible except in the smaller gauges like 28 and 410. In the 12 and 20's todays prices are as cheap as 30 years ago, even more so in the 20 gauge! The price of clays has risen some but very little as well. You do t find many hobbies that stay close to the same price for 3 decades!

Intersting perspective. I started shooting clays about 2003. At that time I was buying Gun Club in one case lots at about $43. Two years ago we were paying about $63 for Super Target in 200 case lots. Prices have come down and we are now about $58 for a 300 case lot. Thats about a 42% increase at the high point. I also remember buying Canuck #9 skeet loads at $.99 a box on sale, great for shooting magpies but that is some time ago Looking back at club records we were buying clays at about $9 a case in 2003. Now it is about $16, an increase of about 78% and we are now buying many pallets instead of just a few.

Never had an issue with Super Target, Challenger or Kent but get about 2% misfires with Federal Top Gun. Shoot about 50 cases per year.

Reload... 1oz Lawrence brand #8 shot Remington STS Hull, Claybuster Wad 17.5 grains Green Dot. = Ink Ball

Fishing World in hamilton has them, i bought 4 flats last week, nice load but I find that they smell funny compared to the Challengers.

Still undecided between a 3 dram 1 oz load or a 2 3/4 dram 1 1/8 load premium shot (gold medal or winchester as) for some upcoming registered shoots at the 16 and 20 yard line for trap.

If you are looking at "premium" loads for registered shoots at 16 - 20 yard ATA Trap, I'd take a hard look at trying to
get hold of some Remington STS in 2-3/4 dram 1-1/8 oz. 7-1/2's. Hardest shot and best patterning stuff it's been my
pleasure to pattern ! Don't think it's any of Remington's BS that most of the trophies taken home at the Grand for the past few years
were taken by shooters using STS loads either. The stuff just plain works !

Thanks ill see if I can find some. Those are the ranges I'm shooting at, seems hard to find premium shells around me lately. Only shells I've seen are winchester aa. In your experience 2 3/4 dram 1 1/8 better than 3 oz 1 oz?

Personally I don't find a whole lot of difference between 2-3/4 dram 1-1/8 oz. loads and 3-1/4 dram 1oz. loads at 16 yards,
however, as you move back to 20 yards and beyond, I believe pattern density from the 1-1/8 oz loads pays off.

It has more to do with you than the ammo, targets don't know the difference between 2 3/4 and 3dram. Shoot what you can find, then buy more of what you like.

Can't find winchester aa, remington sts or federal gold medal anywhere around vancouver. Called almost everywhere I can think including board sponsors

sail has challenger 53.50 a flat. I love these shells when I can get them and dont know why more places dont carry them.

I also used to really like Gamebore white gold, but these seem to be scarce now...
