I've always run bushnell trophy cams. They have done alright but I only seem to get 3-4 season out of a camera before they crap out. My friends have tried a couple different brands some don't work so well in the cold novembers. Just courious what brand and models do you all recommend ?

I've used Bushnell, Moultrie, Spypoint, Wildgame Innovations and I don't think it matters what brand is used 3-4 years seems to be the norm before they start acting up. Hated the Wildgame Innovations camera, batteries kept crapping out. Use only spypoints now, decent pics, excellent battery life and for $100 I don't mind replacing them every 4 or 5 years.
Then you are likely in a very small minority. I don't find them to be an advantage at all. I get pics of great bucks in bachelor groups before season, then usually never or rarely seen again when the rut starts. That said, I have switched to browning and find it to be very similar to bushnell trophy cams. The black ops version does not take great pics at night at 20 yards, but I also do not get every pic of the deer looking at the camera like I did with the bushnell.

Seriously, a trail cam just lets you view and confirm what you suspect is already there.
It is about as unfair as sizing up tracks to see if there bucks or does and big or small deer. I also often find the bucks leave when the rut starts and new bucks come through. To me it is like hunting all year round and I put out several trail cams. I can't wait to see what I have on the cams every week. This year I have had deer, fox, bear, and moose.

I've had trouble with Bushnell video mode when it gets below -20.... as in, it doesn't work! Photo mode is OK
My Reconnyx doesn't do video, but is the most dependable & long-lasting. Better be, for the price of the dang thing!

Trail Cams could be used for security, issue with that is, the trespasser can steal the Trail Cam (with memory card inside)
Security Cameras are usually linked to a hard-drive. If a Security Camera is damaged or stolen, footage is stored on the hard-drive. Good quality Cameras are not cheap.
A Leupold mounted on a 308 works good.
I use trail cams as security cams at the cottage. You wouldn’t believe the amount of people who come by. We have had people use the place to launch boats, just looking around, walking around, stealing wood (oh I saw this one and it wasn’t on trial cam), and so on.
Depends on the size of the solar panel but it would seem to me to be a dead give away to the location andmake it a guarantee steal
