favourite 4x ACOG model & reticle and why

This is one of my concerns with the Trijicon. I have a traditional scope (different brand) and it's too difficult to read the small numbers to be quick.

I have the post with the triangle and it's far too small for my liking.

If you're used to the Elcan C79-type optic, even that post at least takes up a large portion of the viewer so you can see it right away.

On the ACOG the tiny little post is this little thing in the middle, and in my opinion far too small.

You can barely even read the tiny font numbers for the drop compensator, either.

Happy with it overall, but I would have gone with the ring-based battle sight if I could choose.

I think we need to understand a few things.

First of all, seeing something at 300m and above is difficult, unless it is standing and/or moving, wearing bright orange, etc. Someone that is wearing any disruptive pattern or natural colour clothing in prong or kneeling position still is a difficult target. Most of us can't even detect it in most conditions. yes, if a bunch of people walking over a plain that is easier....

In all practicality, the big reticle whether it is a triangle, horseshoe and donut is only good when someone is standing up. If there is need to pump rounds into a holes or a low profile target, that's when the little picket comes into play. Yes, in a pop up range with lockheed martins type targets, the big reticle is the fastest. In a KD range with big Fig12 and 11, it is easier to use the big reticle as well.

The application of the BDC over 300m is not easy - someone is visible/moving enough for you to detect, someone is standing up for you to measure, you are quite bang on with the range. For most ACOG users, this means pumping rounds into the approximate area or a big target.

While I have only one. Its a TA31 with the doughnut reticle mounted on my SA20 .

I really like it. I've had it on at least 4 different rifles but its staying on my SA20 forever.

my favorite acogs in order from most favorite to least
TA33
TA11
TA31

I own a whole lot of them... Probably close to 25k in acogs

I like the TA02 CH as I don't need to worry about tritium or being too bright in sunlight. The reticle is etched so it's usable when turned off.

I realize this but with the TA02 you can shoot with the LED turned off (looking similar to TA01NSN) and not worry about the fiber optic taking in too much light.

You can also cover the fibre optic tube achieving the same thing.

Had 3x Ta31 and Ta01NSN, all gone.

The ones I still have are TA33's & a TA50-C. All 3 powers, just saying. The new Horseshoe w/dot reticle is my fav but the red or green is my old reliable by far.

Don't forget the 3"+ eye relief on the 3x's.

I concur

ta33 is the best acogs by far

I have a TA01ECOS in FDE that I only bought because it was great deal. Eye relief is too short for my liking.

I was going to try a TA11 but when I heard about the TA33 it sounded like my ideal optic. Great eye relief and very light. Have to get rid of the the TA01 in order to afford it though. Keeping the RMR, thing weighs nothing.

TA11 vs TA33... I'd say I overall prefer the TA11, with its larger field of view, but at 2/3 the weight and even better eye relief, the TA33 definitely has its advantages. I just bought a TA33 for my HK, as I wanted to keep the weight down on that heavy beast!!

The FOV of TA33 is half of TA31/01. You don't get something without giving something. I will not trade FOV for eye relief - it is a 556 optic so shorter eye relief can be tolerated.

if I am doing something bigger than 556 I will jump to TA11 and get the weight penalty.

But with both eyes open does field of view really matter?

Exactly. I’ve heard about the narrow field of view but it doesn’t seem to be an issue for most. My main interest in the TA 33 is in order to minimize weight for a lightweight yet multifunctional build. Jack of all trades, master of none.

Yes, if you are looking down at distance for things that cannot be detected and identified with naked eyes. You are dumping rounds at something 300m away, the target goes down, rolls over and it is out of your FOV. You lose track of it . The bigger the FOV the better.

Naked eyes are naked eyes, both eyes open work for things that can be seen without magnification.
