ooooooh, baby!

Anyone know who can get these sucka's into Canada?

Wild West at West Ed. mall has them. They've had a couple on the shelf since the summer of 2005. I managed to resist temptation for two years but next summer might be it!!!!

Nice to see a revolver post! What, you are not looking for a Norinco

I have shot some big wheel guns, but you my friend are taking it to the next level

I myself would pick a Ruger .454, but thats me. Seems that you are looking beyond what my hands can take :runaway:

Lets see some good range reports once you do get what you are looking for

...Anyone else know of any large-frame revolvers out there in .454 or better that I should be considering before I plunk down any cash?

Before spending any cent, try 480 Ruger. It’s, in my opinion, probably the best balanced big power revolver calibre, considering power and portability. If you are after big bad revolver, you should think about big bad bullets, so with about 400 gr bullet, both 454 and 480 are about the same velocity. However, 480 has a bigger dia and bit lower pressure. 454 is hard on revolver barrel, and that is the reason why Freedom Arms offers on Premier models replaceable forcing cone insert.

The 480's ###y, and you're right, it is a much more practical choice.

Practical isn't what I'm after here though ;)

BIG cartridge, BIG blast & fireball, big recoil.... that's what I'm after. I still think the super redhawk is great, but the 45-70's even better :D It's going to rock my world (and anyone else next to me on the range :p)

prosper didn't you say you're interested in double actions? all those BFRs and rugers are SA...

Yeah, I did, and I realize that these are SA. Not a huge deal. I just prefer the lines of a DA revolver over a SA - purely aesthetic. And I like the looks of the BFR, so I can live with it.

I had the chance to fire off a S&W 500 last night. Sweet merciful crap. I'm pretty sure that thing takes a week off the lifespan of your internal organs every shot.

In another thread a while back, I made comment concerning the recoil I experienced with my 500 S&W. Especially, for example, with full house loads using 440gr cast or Hornady 500gr JFP bullets, this hand cannon has the distinct ability to inflict pain, at both ends!!:) Inspite of the Hogue grips and possibly because the rubber grip material is thin in the hump area of the grip frame, thats where I felt the most 'discomfort' / pain. I had an old set of Herrett's stocks, the Jordan Trooper style, for my N frame smith that I modified to fit the 500. Made all the difference in the world. It is still a 'handful' to shoot but more manageable and no localized area of discomfort. I guess it spreads the pain over a bigger area.;) :D

I do not think a handgun should be huge. I would like a 5.5" .475 Linebaugh from Bowen Classic Arms. The package is trim, and the power is probably as far as one can go in a normal sized handgun. From what I've been reading no other handgun cartridge can match it's penetration on game, when it's loaded with heavy flat nosed cast bullets.

:dancingbanana: :dancingbanana: I have a S&W .500 and a .460 as well as a Ruger .480. all of these guns are fun to shoot but my .460 is 2 weeks old and I have put 200 rounds through it. Downside it is very loud.:) :) :) :) :runaway: :runaway:

Gunslinger,
I will get you a picture of my Tornado. It's ver different than that picture. It's blued, with 7 1/2" barrel, adjustable sights and a heavier topstrap. I am impressed with the quality of it and tolerances. Uberti did well, but they do sell for three times the price of other Uberti revolvers. But still half the price of a Freedom Arms. They obviously spend more hours on fitting and tolerances than their standard pistols. It will be interesting to see how it stands up long term to high pressures.

Here are a couple of bad pics of the Tornado. Notice the grip frame is the same shape as used on a Freedom Arms, very different than the other Ubertis. But you get the idea.
The Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt will do 75% of what the five shot .454 Casull revolvers will do. It will give you all the power and recoil you want. Unless I wanted that extra bit of performance I would stay with the Ruger. They are about the same size as the 5 shot single actions in everyway and they shoot well. The .45Colt in a Blackhawk will outperform a .44 Mag easily.
