Favourite Hunting Bullets

I'll second the Federal Fusion. Deadly accurate in my rifle, never fails to drop what I shoot, and is pretty economical to boot. I still have boxes of SST's and Win BST's but the Fusions just keep working for me.

I have a few hundred speer .308 btsp 165grain that I picked up with some other reloading gear... has anyone tried these on game? If so how did they preform?
I was going to try them in my 308 win.

They will kill deer very well, but do not expect consistent exits or great penetration on raking shots. The BTSP is a little softer than Hotcores and performs best when its slowed a touch. I'd recommend against shots demanding a great deal of penetration at short ranges. Not as promoted or trendy as some loads but it will work and with due care towards placement it would probably kill bigger critters as well.
This of course is all worth less than you paid for it. I've been known to use cartridges and loads that some here would argue are much less capable with consistently great results on deer.

Speer Hotcores are my preference, but rem cor- lokts, win power points, Hornaday interlocks, and Sierra pro hunters all have worked very well for accuracy and killing. All flatbase & easy to find accurate loads for. Haven't shot anything bigger than deer & black bear so haven't felt the need for premium bullets.

To issue a blanket statement of fave bullets doesn't really work for me. There are a few factors to add to the mix. Velocity, intended game, and expected ranges to start. I don't shoot any BG rifles that would produce much over 3000fps.

1. 257Roberts for deer gets a 100gr NP or 100gr Hornady SP.
2. 300H&H for moose (if the tags come) gets 180gr NP.
3. 257Rigby for deer gets whatever C&C works best incl. 175gr RN.
4. 308 .... for deer gets C&C ..... For moose would get 180gr NP.
5. 280 .... for deer 120gr BT or other C&C ..... For moose would get 160gr NP.
6. 22-250 for deer gets a 52gr TSX. Same for 223.

Ive killed a pile of game with sierra gamekings as well as pro-hunters and never had a failure. I also like the nosler etip for a mono bullet. It performs better for me than the barnes bullets. Ive also been playing around with the federal trophy bonded tip lately and they shoot really well but I've yet to kill anything with them. For muzzleloader bullets i like the hornady sst.

Very nice! You have a .35 Whelen! I am jealous! That is a seriously awesome caliber and that Nosler PT 250 grain must rock. With a caliber/bullet like that it can take on anything without the nasty recoil. I have to get one someday ...
