One thing I'm looking for buying a scope is the reticle. I was wondering without checking out everything out there if others chose a scope because of the reticle also. Chime in with brand and model. Cheers.

I've been buying Primary Arms scopes specifically for their reticles. I think their reticles are some of the best out there for shooting targets without having to use the dials.

This might really depend on the magnification range that you are looking at and your preference to Mils or MOA and how many denominations of each unit. I really like reticles to have some numbers for reference.

For LPVO:
Primary Arms ACSS
IOR CQB reticles
IOR 1.5-8 Mil FFP
Bushnell BTR

Higher magnification:
Vortex EBR-7C or EBR-2C
IOR MP-8 Xtreme X1
Delta LRD-1T
Athlon Cronus BTR 4.5-29
Nightforce Mil XT
Bushnell G3
H59 or Nightforce Tremor 2 + 3

I don’t have a lot of FFP experience, but if Zeiss makes their Rapid Z reticles in FFP they would be good.

Precision Optics had a heck of a good sale along with the 20 days of Bushnell, so this is my current favorite recital.

I forgot to mention the Glass...

Bespoke S&B 5-25 PMII, CCWT/DT,ILL, H59

Beautiful piece. No disrespect to my Sightrons, but yes they are better. Is it 2x the scope? Sort of. the glass is very good in both. However Sightron does not offer the Horus reticles. Until they do, I will not spend another dime with them.

Comparing the FFP Sightron 6-24 and the S&B 5-25 is nice because they sport similar magnification range.

Compared to Nightforce? I'll keep the S&B.

In optics for precision rifles I like the H59 and the CCH, both of which I have lots of experience with. H59 in Bushnell 3.5-21 HDMR2s and CCH in Leupold Mk5 5-25s. I like the look of the Nightforce Mil-XT as well and look forward to having a look through one. Also had a look through a Zero Compromise this weekend and really liked both the reticle and scope! I tend to like grid reticles though, more than say x-mas trees (like the Bushnell G3 which is ok but I prefer the Horus types).

H59 is good - I had 3 SB 5-25s with them - there is a lot of stuff in there that I didn't use though - you also pay a premium for them.

I think reticles like the MR4 (Minox ZP5 - my new scopeX3), the SKMR3 (Kahles), EBR Series (Vortex), and the JVCR (USO) are better than the Horus type though. They have the info you need without being too cluttered which the Horus' can be sometimes.

I think once you get into the $3K+ range in scopes you are really just picking the one you like so things like the reticle are really important. In this price range all the glass is good, all the turrets are good, all the features are good.

I know for me I will never buy a NF as the whole ocular rotates when changing magnification - just a preference that I have - but of course lots of people run NF very happily.

APRS1-FFP-IR-MIL-PWR (1).jpg

Athlon Ares ETR

APRS3-FFP-MIL-MIDASTAC.jpg

Athlon Midas TAC

Both are simple to use... Reticle matches the scope clicks easily. Not cluttered and easy to pick up on target.

Central dot is very fine/small and allow for very precise aiming at high mag

The Cronus BTR is similar but has a + in the middle vs a dot. They will also now offer a central dot like the Ares and Midas as it has proven to be very popular.

Bang for buck - Ares ETR if you want ED glass and Midas TAC if you want HD glass.

That's what I like about the CCH reticle, it doesn't have the mover holds or the steps above the horizontal line but actually has sub tensions on the vertical (above the horizontal) for hold-unders) and it's a bit finer so it's easier to see splash. At the end of the day though it's totally a case of personal preference.

I like the EBR-7B in the Razor AMG. I had both a EBR-7 and the 7B is better for me. Only difference as far as I can tell is the 7 had a center crosshair and the 7B has a center dot for an aiming point. I find it easier to be more precise with the dot.

The grid and tree on that reticle are good as well. Enough aiming points and not too cluttered to be confusing.

What ^ he said! The ACSS reticle is very easy & quick to make hits on man sized targets. Having said that its not ideal for long range precision shooting.
