Favourite sling for your Marlin 45-70!

I need a sling for my new Marlin 1895. What is everyone using out there? Where did you buy it? Thanks!

Hey buddy, how's things? Best sling for a 45-70 is a Quarter horse, Appy cross, Paint horse or any horse or mule that'll carry that gun for 'ya. :):):)

I'm a function over form kinda guy. For when the going is steep and wet, a Browning X-Celerrator that allows you to sling it like a packsack on both shoulders is my choice.

I am very much a person for slings. For carrying and shooting. I have quick detachable swivels and use the same sling on several rifles.

Ditto on that,I have a wide factory Remington sling with quick detachable swivels that gets used on a lot of rifles.
PS there H4831,where did you get a pic of my 1895 45-70??,same rifle with very similar scope!!

303 carbine, I just snuck up and got a picture of your rifle.
I notice the scope is a Redfield 1 to 4 power.

Leather slings are great when you're dry. Not when you're soaking wet 220 days per year. This is a working rifle. Bears in the kitchen tent at 3am sort of thing. Slogging through the bush with a heavy pack, no trails etc.

It's not just a 20 day per year hunting rifle.

Synthetic slings are cheaper than good quality leather, and as Geologist says when a cheap leather sling gets wet it fails. Water doesn't hurt quality leather if you know how to care for it, and a light annual application of Neets Foot Oil goes a long way in this regard.

I am a strong proponent of using the sling as a shooting aid. While the traditional one and a quarter inch wide military competition sling is a bit much to hang under a hunting rifle, the simple carrying strap employed as a hasty sling isn't quite satisfactory. The sling I've come to really appreciate is the Galco Safari Ching Sling. I've had one slung under my .375 for the last 5 years, and this rifle gets carried much more than the typical hunting rifle, enough that the McMillan stock's checkering has flattened out and the color has worn through where it contacts my back. After 5 years, this sling shows no sign of undue wear or of needing to be replaced.

The Safari Ching Sling might have an unconventional appearance to the traditionalist, however, it is a light simple sling that would be at home on most types of hunting rifles regardless of action type. The exception would be on rifles where the sling is attached to a barrel band, but such systems are unsuitable for slinging up with anyway.

Re: Safari Ching Sling

Could the length be easily adjusted to stay compatible with the Ruger compact rifles and/or the Marlin 1985, 336C etc?

Great, I'm going to acquire one....looking at various websites, the (simplified) design certainly indicates that it would assist to improve steadiness. Thanks,

I use a copy of a US Military sling. Lighter, made by browning, a buddy gave it to me. Normally I don't use one, but when I and moving in the bush going home I will.

Look out...there's a zombie coming...get the 45/70 with the flashlight?

The gun is nice minus the open sights, ammo carrier, and most importantly the flashlight.
