Favourite steelshot.

I have had success with Score #3 for ducks.
It does the job and doesn't make a mess either.

Im firing them out of a Baikal side by side 12 gauge.
Right barrel full choke, left barrel modified.

Another vote for Score ammo. Works very well in my Benelli and my 870 and it is CANADIAN. If Hiliary gets into office score may be your only option next year.

Some have mentioned Challenger ammo and since Cabelas had a sale, I thought I'd try it out this weekend. My first observation is an interesting one....the 3.5" shells are very short!! Now I know the length is measured based on a fired shell. But how big of a crimp do these shells need? Clearly there is less of something in these Challengers. Check this out...order is Federal, Remington, Winchester, Challenger

Here is a comparison with a Federal 3.5" and a Winchester 3" shell. Its exactly an in between length

That's wierd

Currently
20ga.- Winchester Blindside #2
12ga.- Remington Sportsman #2
- Score #2 + BB

Used alot of challenger in the past with good results. Have experienced the wad not opening on the Score as others have mentioned acting almost like a slug.

Thanks for the review information. I have been using Challenger 3" BB and also picked up some Winchester 3" BB that was on sale recently at Cabelas. Not overly impressed with the Winchester. Something just didn't seem right when we fired them. The report was much "softer" than the Challenger. Going to try some Score 3" this weekend for goose and see how they perform.

I also picked up the Winchester 3" BB at Cabela's when they were on sale, $12.99 a box I believe, picked up a case.

I've been having good luck with Federal Black Cloud 2 3/4" #3's or #4's for ducks. On a side note I see Cabela's has them on sale and there is also a mail in rebate for $5 per box when you buy a flat of any Black Cloud.

12 gauge 3.5 inch shells with 1&3/8 oz of shot in either

Remington Sportsman #2 @1550fps OR
Winchester Xpert #2 @ 1550fps

Works great for ducks or geese.

Cheers
Jay

I prefer #2's for geese. Pattern density is just as important as pellet size. Within 40 years, their goose is cooked!

Cheers

I agree with this statement, however I prefer BBB and T because I like the idea of less pellets in my goose meat. I like running the meat in a meat grinder to make sausages, meat balls and hamburger patties. So less pellets means less found in the processed meat and less pellets to possibly damage my equipment. I also find that the larger shot has a tendancy to pass through the bird with less meat damage then smaller more dense shot. I rarely shoot out to 40 yards anyway and I find that the shots that I take within 20-25 yards really dont need a dense shot pattern. Have I effectvely shot geese with small shot size? Yes. But its royal pain in the butt searching through ground meat for #4 pellets and sometimes having to stop and disassemble my grinder to pull out a pellet that has become lodged in the internals preventing smooth operation of the grinder
