Contemplating the Faxon 18.5 barrel offered by CTCS but not finding much discussion in the way of reviews
anyone built with one yet?
do they require the armalite gas tube?

discuss...….

Have you looked to see if there are any reviews of the 20" barrels? Why would this barrel be any different? Besides being 1.5" shorter everything else would remain the same would it not?

I seen some at the range and they were moa barely. Fit and finish was good and performance could most likely be better with a finely tuned load for the barrel. But with factory ammo. 1-1.5 moa. That's all that could be squeezed out of it

I suppose

but all things considered I was looking for more info than just how they shoot..... like do they function with a dpms gas tube.
seems some 20" faxon barrels do depending on the bolt used?

anyhow was more or less hoping to hear from members here who have built a rifle with one and what experience/review they could relate.
I have two tack drivers already and a spare upper with a titanium bolt and 6.5cm BSF 20" to play with.
I'm just debating on whether to sell the unfinished build to fund other ammo and parts or finish this project with a not so high end barrel/bolt combo.
I figured the faxon would be lighter than the stag 18.75 and it's a decent price so that's where I'm at....

My Faxon barrel works well now that I have an armalite gas tube. I have a big gunner in 6.5 and a 308 pencil. I got both on sale for about 100 less then the 18.5 so I put up with the longer barrel

Only Faxon I have any XP with us in a M14 medium weight profile... I can attest to the fact that the exterior was finished well, and the installation required the shoulder to have 15 thou turned off. The chamber was about 20thou short chambered (which was to be expected).

The fella who sent it to me was very pleased with the rifle upon its return, I will let him chime in if he desires to...

That is pretty much a Watermelons to Carrots comparison..... ;)

well..... its all moot now fellas..... I listed the incomplete build in the EE LOL
These parts were purchased in anticipation for a Maple Ridge Armory 19" .338federal barrel that they kept repeating they were going to do a run of …….. a year later pretty much and I see no .338 federal offered LOL
so now that the parts are for sale, I won't be grabbing a 18.5 faxon after all and just gonna stick with what I've already got built.

You know there are other companies that will make you a 338 Fed barrel, like X-Caliber.

You say this like it's a bad thing. Under 2 MOA with factory ammo? Count me in. I don't think anyone is claiming it to be a Match barrel. Not everyone wants or needs a 15lb rifle that shoots 1/4 MOA 3rd groups.

Lol...was thinking the same thing, what's wrong with that!!

I am running the big Gunner and getting match bbl results on my bcl. Have the match fluted in 6.5 on my stag but not tested for accuracy. Both using regular rifle length gas tubes. No armalite. Is the armalite recommended? I've had no issues so far.

I do believe that these barrels have the gas hole in the farther Armalite location. Some have had to switch to the longer Armalite tube in order to make it reliable. If you're not having issues I wouldn't be too concerned but I'd still want to switch it out eventually. Wolverine should be able to get you one.

I have the 20" heavy fluted match barrel on one of my MS uppers, haven't really wrung it out yet but the one group i did shoot with 73gr Hornady ELD Match was slightly over moa. Will have to bench it with a few more loads.

Also have one of the 18.6 Gunners from CTCS, not yet built but probably will finish that up next week and will report back once I hit the range with it.

I put a 18.6" Big Gunner on Stag 10 and it shoots very well, 1-1.5moa is what I'm getting and that perfect for me. Caribou and moose don't stand a chance with that sort of accuracy.
